To make this Hormone for woman, thousands of female horses (mares) are kept in solitary confinement.
Mares enter the collection barns in September and remain until March or April. Each mare is kept tethered in a narrow stall with a rubber cup positioned over her vulva to collect the urine flow. The cup is held in place by overhead supports and a partial body harness. The tether and collection apparatus greatly restrict movement, and the mare is unable to turn around or take more than a step or two in any direction. If the tether is too short, she may even be unable to lie down comfortably. The mares are purposely kept dehydrated
to keep their urine concentrated,to yield more oestrogens this can cause them to miscarry, also giving them kidney and liver problems.
Some mares never see daylight for months, and get little or no exercise at all.
Reliable estimates indicate there are at least 50,000 production mares on PMU farms, accounting for the births of approximately 40,000 offspring annually.

The Fate of the Foals

The fate of the tens of thousands of foals born on PMU farms each year-who are considered industry "byproducts"-is equally disturbing. Some are used to replace their exhausted mothers, many of whom have been confined to PMU farms for many years. Most of the remaining foals, along with worn-out mares, are sold to "kill buyers," fattened, and slaughtered. With such a demand for horsemeat in countries like Japan and Europe some 90,000 mares and foals are killed each year from PMU farms.

This is an appalling inhumane business, thousands of horses and foals are abused every year on these farms. It is totally unexcepable to treat any living thing with such lack of compassion.
There are many alternatives to Premarin, natural, and without abuse to animals.
Woman must choose alternatives to premarin, many doctors are now offering natural alternatives due to ill health whislt taking premarin. Please ask your doctor for advise on this issue.
