My life is blessed. I have owned and been horse riding since I was a young girl. They are a part of my life that I cannot do without. They represent joy and freedom, and the feeling I get when I am with them is one-with-nature. They make me laugh, they give me love, and after a hard day at work, there is not a greater stress relief than saddling up and going for a ride. Together we are team, trust each other, and share a remarkable partnership.

While horses are second nature to me, many people are mystified by horses and horse riding. They are big animals that look formidable, just from the shear size of them; The idea of getting on a horse's back can be frightening. To many, horseback riding is intimidating... or worse, some are fearful of horses. It is not your fault. You are simply reacting to a lifetime of what you have seen and been told.

I talk a lot about horses to anyone who will listen, and the general feeling I get from most people is that, while they are intimidated by them, they would love the chance to learn to horse riding.

If you have a little spark, or a big fantasy, why not take the leap and learn horse riding secrets that are fast, fun and easy.

Horse Back Riding Lessons Before You Start Riding

Before You Start Horse Riding Understand Horse Behavior

Learning horse riding techniques starts on the ground.

The very basic step is understanding that horses are not human, and do not think or see as a human. This is very important for your safety on and off the ground.Horse are herd animals. This means that they are genetically hard wired to live, think and act as a pack animal. Nature has programed them to react, rather than to act. Ever seen a TV show of a herd of zebras spooked at a predator. It is no different with a horse... But this should not deter you learning to horse ride. Rather it gives you an understanding that they are different and you must "think like a horse"

Like us also, horses display strong body language, and their messages are very clear and their intent is well defined. For example, if my horse's head comes up, her ears are forward, and her back stiffens, I know she has become alert to something that may represent danger to her. If she is swishing her tail, and her ears are back, then she is annoyed.

You might wonder why this is all important; Just remember that learning to ride a horse is the mastery of understand another living creature. It is not anything like learning to ride a bike, or drive a car. It has to be done with the safety of both of you in mind.

But the pay off is worth it.Learning horse riding can be one of the most thrilling experiences of your life. There is no freedom like the freedom of galloping across a field on the back of an horse. There is no bond more wondrous than the bond between human and horse.

Horse Riding Instructions - When You Go Out For A Horse Back Ride

Horse Back Riding Tips To Remember

I have a mental list that I check before I go out horse riding. These tips are good advice for any rider venturing out. A little horse sense I say....

  1. Check your tack before you go and see if you need to make any repairs. Take along a knife and a little string in case something breaks along the way.

  2. In the warm weather, take a bottle of water, sun screen, bug repellent, a hat and long sleeves.

  3. In the cold weather, take extra gloves and dress warm.

  4. Always carry a hoof pick. You'll never know when your horse might pick up a stone in his foot.

  5. Wear appropriate riding boots. Ones with heels that won't slip through the stirrups.

  6. Wear protective head gear. Its the only head you have got.

  7. Try to ride with a riding buddy. Two is safer, and there is always lots to talk about.lol

  8. Have fun. Laugh Lots!!!
