I have had hosting accounts and still have hosting accounts with 8-10 different hosting companies. I used bluehost for a long time as they were my favorite.

Now my favorite is Hostmonster. Incidentally, they're both owned by the same company.

But my blog had been hosted with penguinhost. They were the first hosting account I ever had. However, I can't handle them anymore. There support has was very rude and talked to me like I was a total idiot and lied to me. They tried telling me that anyone who wants to can easily hack drupal 4.6.3 and gain access to your hosting account. That's just blatantly not true. They wanted me to upgrade every piece of software I had on the account, which just wasn't going to happen.

So, I cancelled the account. Today I moved my blog and my family site to one of my hostmonster accounts.

I use hostmonster and I really like them a lot. The $4.95 price is if you sign up and prepay for 2 years. For a year it's 7.95 a month. There is a set up fee for 6 months or month to month hosting.

I've only been using them for a little over a week, but can say this so far...they do offer everything they claim to and in my opinion, are one of the best cheap hosting deals I've seen. They also give you 50 gigs of space and 999 gigs of bandwidth a month. I don't think there are any significant limitations either. You do have to follow an easy process to get shell access just to prevent the wrong people from accessing it to try to do harm, but if you need that you can get it.

I recently switched over to Hostmonster because my previous host couldn't offer me the kind of space and bandwidth that Hostmonster offers.

I give top marks to their customer service. They have responded to my tickets in under 30 minutes, and their LiveChat support responds in under 5 minutes. The best thing is that, on the few occassions that I requested support, the problems were generally fixed on the spot.

So far, I had not experienced any downtime, although there were times when page loading seems a little slow. Overall, for the price that you pay ($3.95 a month if you pay upfront for at least 12 months, and they bundle in one free domain name as long as you stay with them), there really isn't much to complain about.
