What the heck is an artichoke?

Did you know that the part of the artichoke that we eat is the flower bud?

Learn all about artichokes by visiting the California Artichoke Advisory Board website, where I learned this: "A native of the Mediterranean, the artichoke is a perennial in the thistle group of the sunflower (Compositae) family. In full growth, the plant spreads to cover an area about six feet in diameter and reaches a height of three to four feet. Its long, arching, deeply serrated leaves give the plant a fern-like appearance. The Green Globe cultivar accounts for essentially all the artichokes grown in this area."

Artichokes make wonderful kitchen artwork, too, don't you think?

This is one of my favorite dips. So expensive to buy already made. I'll have to try this instead!

When I first saw the title of this lens I misread 'heart' as 'hate'! I nearly fell off my chair! (How could anyone, I thought, hate artichoke dip?) But I see that I was seriously mistaken. P.S. I've never seen artichoke in cans.5* for excellence and for the eminent good sense of liking artichokes
