European Hot Chocolate

European hot chocolate is a special treat. Richer and creamier than the North American variety, it's a delicious hot drink that is especially enjoyable on cold, blustery days, whether it be for breakfast, brunch, an afternoon break, or even on its own as an evening dessert. For hot cocoa lovers, it makes a great Valentine's Day or other special occasion gift.

Hot cocoa lovers know that enjoying a cup of hot chocolate is an experience and look forward to relaxing in their favorite chair while sipping their cocoa and warming their hands on the mug. European-style hot chocolate is a delightful alternative for hot chocolate lovers of all ages. I have featured a variety of European hot chocolates, including white hot chocolate and other flavors, as well as organic varieties. I've also included ideas on what to serve with European hot cocoa and, if you're interested in making your own European-style hot chocolate, I've included resources on recipes for various types of European hot cocoa.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

What to Serve with European Hot Chocolate

hot chocolate

Are you looking for European desserts or other specialties to serve with your hot cocoa? If you'd like to treat yourself or your family, consider serving French crepes or croissants with European hot chocolate for special occasion breakfasts or brunches, such as Valentine's Day, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or family reunions. Other treats to consider are churros, which are Spanish doughnuts, bunuelos de calabaza(pumpkin doughnuts from the Valenica area of Spain), or perhaps Austrian Apfelstrudel (apple strudel). Other possibilities are German Black Forest cake, French creme brulee, and Italian tiramisu or panettone. All of these will add a memorable touch to your special occasion and are also great dessert ideas.

I love hot chocolate, even the sugar free kind that come in a little packet that you mix with hot water. But rich, creamy hot chocolate is even better. I don't believe I've ever tried European-style hot chocolate, though, and now I'm dying to know how it tastes and what makes it different than the North American version.
