What To Buy In 2008

Just don't know what to buy your kids this year? Want to know what is the latest and greatest? This lens can help. I will provide inside information for what the children actually want in the sets. I will try to separate it into the different Lego series.

First Series:Castle

The castle series is great for younger kids and older kids alike, for it allows you to pretty much decide what's happening on all levels. The problem with it is that you usually need more than one set and that can get expensive. Anyway, this is the first series I am reviewing. More sets from this series coming soon... Don't forget to vote for the next series you want to see next!

Some Small Castle Sets

I ordered them from my least favorite, to my most favorite.

Lego Castle Exclusive Mini Figure #5615 The Knight

This set has one well equipped knight, and a rack to hold equipment on. Good for kids who are just starting their Lego collection, or those who just want another minifig and some accessories.

Amazon Price: $11.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Troll Warrior - Castle By Lego

The troll version of the set above, this set is (in my opinion) better. That is because it cames with more props, and has a funny rat :D. Good for kids who are just starting their Lego collection, or those who just want another minifig and some accessories.

Amazon Price: $9.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO Castle Dwarves' Mine Defender

A nice little set that has some interesting things. One is the dwarf itself, and another is the nice little cart. It is a nice addition to any collection, and good for use with another set.

Amazon Price: $10.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Crossbow Attack

This is a small set, but it is great in that it has 3 minifigs, and a crossbow that actually fires (very far in fact). This is a good addition to a larger set or to a still growing collection.

Amazon Price: $24.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Knight's Catapult Defense

With four minifigs, this is a good set for those who are trying to expand their castle minifigs and accessories. The only bad part is that it doesn't have very high rebuilding value.

Amazon Price: $34.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Some Large Castle Sets

I ordered them from my least favorite, to my most favorite.

Skeleton's Tower

A fairly large set, this is the evil version of the King's Castle. It is good for those who have a large castle collection, but not good for those just starting. This is because of the lack of Knights compared to the villains. Some cool parts include the dragon, and the building pieces.

Amazon Price: $169.95 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Lego Castle Exclusive Limited Edition Set #7041 Troll Battle Wheel

A good intermediate set, this include a awesome rolling vehicle, and six minifigs. With tons of accessories and pieces, this is good for use in conjunction with 2-3 smaller sets.

Amazon Price: $39.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Lego Vikings Set #7021 Double Catapult Versus the Armored Ofnir Dragon

While not really a "castle" set, I really liked this one so I put it in :). With an incredible Dragon and a cool cart with three minifigs, this is another good intermediate set.

Amazon Price: $41.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO Castle Dwarves' Mining

"High Ho Off To Work We Go" This set is one of the best in a long time. With a wealth of gems, crystals, and accessories, this set is a good set that is sure to be a hit for those with moderate sized collections. I like it how you can either just mine for gold, or fight off the enemy.

Amazon Price: $59.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO® Castle King's Castle Siege

The ultimate in the castle series, this set is great for any castle enthusiast, or Lego lover. With movable walls, working drawbridge, and plenty of "action" pieces, this is a monster of a set. Unlike the Skeleton's Tower, this has not only a great castle, but a formidable foe. This set is sure to put a smile on any kids face.

Amazon Price: $97.44 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

Various Castle Sets

I ordered them from my least favorite, to my most favorite.

Final Joust

A good set to collect rare gold pieces with, this set comes with two fully armed minifigs, and a goodly amount of accessories. Good for use with a few other small sets.

Amazon Price: $51.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO Castle Troll Assault Wagon

Though this wouldn't be MY first choice, this is a good Lego set for those who are Castle enthusiasts, or those who have moderate sized collections. It has a fair amount of pieces, but the cart that it comes with isn't that good (in my opinion).

Amazon Price: $19.46 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO Castle Tower Raid

A interesting set, this has good rebuilding value. With five minifigs, this is also good for collecting accessories and minifigs. With a cool siege tower, this is one of the better castle sets

Amazon Price: $29.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO Castle Troll Warship

An unusual set, the Troll Warship is a cool castle ship, that includes a lot of cool things. Some are the numerous trolls (there are six of them) the giant troll, and the cool dragon. This is good for those with intermediate to large sized collections.

Amazon Price: $79.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

LEGO VIKINGS Army of Vikings with Heavy Artillery Wagon (7020)

A interesting set that I just recently discovered, this is a awesome set for those Viking fans. With seven vikings and a cool cart, this is a good set for those with a large collection. With no villain to fight, your going to need either another large set, or a few smaller ones. A cool feature is the rapid fire launcher.

Amazon Price: $32.99 (as of 07/12/2009) Buy Now

A Random Castle Scene I Did

Although I built this with my older castle pieces, this gives a good idea of the diversity you can have within a series. See the text below for some descriptions!

Descriptions For Slideshow

Setting: Three castle-age explorers are traveling through a semi-tropical jungle when they find a small tower. One whole side of the tower is covered with the undergrowth, and it is in general disrepair.

Picture 1: A main view of the scene.

Picture 2: The explorers. What could be in that chest?

Picture 3: A closeup view of the tower.

Picture 4: Some natives don't want you around!

Picture 5: Whats a abandoned tower without some treasure?

Picture 6: A back view of the scene.

New Series: Indiana Jones!

Bum Ba Dum Baaaa......Bum Ba Bum Da Duuuuum

The Indiana Jones series is a good series for middle aged children. This is because it is usually a little too specific for younger kids, but older kids will probably will get bored with it after a while. The sets are fairly well priced, and the sets cover a wide variety of scenarios.
