Here's a treasure trove of fun, widgety modules. 8 easy ways to make your lenses stand out from the crowd.
  • The Talk Bubble Module

  • The Sticky Note (post-it) Module

  • The Blackbox Module

  • The Polaroid module (This one is gorgeous)

  • The BIG Arrow Link module

  • The Most Important Thing module

  • The DUEL module (my favorite!)

  • and just for fun, a Countdown module.

What these modules can do for you

They're not just eye candy. (Though they are awfully fun to play with).

The idea behind these new modules is simple: We wanted to come up with more ways to help you show off your best content. We call it UUU. Updated, unique, useful content.

The most successful Squidoo lenses, like the most successful blogs and the best stores, are all filled with unique stuff. Stuff worth talking about. Collections of recommended links. Opinions that are all YOURS. Lists of information that actually make a point. Debates worth engaging in. Hand-built organization that teaches. Copy that's worth reading.

If you stick remarkable stuff on your lens, stuff that's useful to readers who stop by, something that's exclusive to you, and you update it now and then, well, guess what? You've just created something that search engines gobble up with a spoon.

And we think this new suite of modules can help. My personal favorite? The Duel module. You don't need to write all this UUU content yourself, you know. Ask a burning question about your topic, then run a debate on it. The more you encourage user-generated content and interaction on your lens, the harder it is to ignore.

And now... bring on the modules!

P.S. Beware the Carnival

P.S. Yeah, there will be people who can't resist using ALL these graphical modules at once. You know, the kind of person who as a kid ate 30 PixieStix at a time and then cried through the inevitable sugar crash.

But the smartest of you will use these to emphasize points, to surface a few gems, and I'm sure will perfect the art of balance.

In other words, do yourself a favor. Don't make a lens like this one with all the modules in one place! It's ooogly. Pick and choose which UUU modules work for you.

"Tell me this module isn't neat. I think it could be a great way to show off quotes and testimonials."

We call this one Blackbox

You can probably see why. You can put a fair amount of information in this module. Something about it feels like a good place for making a really strident point, a strong opinion, or maybe just an overview of the most important stuff on your topic. I dunno -- you decide.

Technically, We Can't Call This A Post-It

So instead let's call it the InstitutionalYellowStickyNote (TM) module. I like thinking of it as a reminder module. Or a Note to your Readers module. Other ideas?

don't forget the caption

Here's my favorite: the Duel module

Ask a question. Make it irresistible. Moderate a debate.

Do you think Putin deserved Time's Person of the Year?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Putin absolutely deserved it

crushwb says:

Putin is a strong leader and what he has done for Russia is a good thing , I have been to Russia before and after his era and the country is far better.

EHorn says:

I think he could be. I'm from Russia and lived there when he began his leadership as President of country. And I could tell he is a very intelligent politician, who does a lot for people.

Margaret_Schaut says:

I hear the Russian girls all think he's hot!

Chip_Westley says:

Well...maybe. He's certainly a "person of consequence". Unfortunately, the consequences of his actions appear to be making the world an even more dangerous and unstable place.

Putin - Bad Person of the Year.

isle15 says:

No doubt about it

DarleneTooley says:

I my self am learning to love all and hate nothing. So Why Not Putin

AllThingsMichigan says:

If Person of the Year equals "Mr. Sliding Russia Back Into the Grip of Communism" then Da (that's yes in Russian folks ;) ), he deserved it.

Review_Guru says:

Yes! He sure does!

SusanVillasLewis says:

Sure since the point is someone who has had a huge impact in the past year. It's not a recognition for greatness, just for impact. (Course, with that arugment, one could make a case for Brittany Spears!)

Ugsome says:

I was surprised by their choice, but sure, Putin can have it.

Are you kidding me? No way

sittonbull says:

Duh... Putin should be doing time!

patfenner says:

I think they were definitely out to lunch when they chose him! Maybe it was just a joke to see if we were paying attention...

inese_millere says:

LovingLife says:

davyjones says:

I need to watch more News because I would have voted for Michael Scott.

bookcat says:

Nolan_Emmett says:

Absolutely NOT! Own agenda will show through.

Art Gonzalez says:

Absolutely not! He is being crafting an alliance with Iran to unstabilize all the Middle East.

adez7 says:

Time's editor spelled tyrant wrong! It's not spelled "Person" it's spelled "Tyrant"!

pacwp says:

Putin??? Wasn't he a house elf???

d-artist says:

surely you jest!?

LawrenceIp says:

Where's Salman Rushdie... Tolstoy... and The Cheshire Cat when you need them? (Exactly how far down the rabbit hole are we anyway?)

RickBasset says:

Shouldn't that be 'Czar of the Year'?!

goldenprosperity says:

TIME will tell! They must have had their own good reason. I wonder who the runner ups were???

digitalscrap says:

No! Name a fallen American soldier the person of the year!

"The Most Important Thing"

Similar to the blackbox module, this one can be used to break up long lenses and punctuate a wordy text article with a point.
