H.O.T. Helping Our Troops!

We've all heard of pin-ups! Pin ups were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols. One of the most popular early pin-up girls was Betty Grable. Her poster was ubiquitous in the lockers of G.I.s during World War II. The term "pin-up" was first attested to in English in 1941; however the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s.Clara Gordon Bow (picture here) was considered a pin-up in the twenties.

H.O.T. or "Helping Our Troops" is here to bring back the pin-up as a way of bolstering the morale of our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
To do this, we are seeking autographed pictures of popular cheerleaders, movie and television stars and singers to send to our military personal in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We will be contacting as many cheerleaders, movie and television stars and singers as we can to request autographed pictures for mailing to our troops! We will also be requesting donations of stamps and envelopes as postage and packaging gets to be very expensive.

You can help by requesting autographed pictures from any cheerleaders, movie and television stars and/or singers that you know. By donating stamps and photo sized envelopes! Or just by making others aware of this site and our goal.

Lack Of Interest!

I thought that this might be something that our troops would enjoy but apprently most of the people here at home do not agree.

I've spent many hours contacting team dancers, cheerleaders, etc. in an attempt to aquire autographed pictures for the troops with no success! While two teams did reply expressing their desire to send me pictures, neither followed through. The rest have completely ignored my requests.

But then, the same holds true for getting addresses for sending the pictures to. I'm not sure if people feel that it's a bad idea or if they don't care to supply the addresses.

Whatever the reasoning, I will continue trying for another month. If there is no co-operation by then, I plan on giving up on the idea.

Your opinions on this idea would be appreciated! Leave your comments in the Guestbook below.

My thanks to the Houston Texan Cheerleaders!
The Houston Texan Cheerleaders have been the only ones to respond with pictures and it is appreciated. Your pictures will be forwarded right away. Thanks to all of you!

Help Us Out!

We have lists of email addresses and snail mail addresses for movie stars, tv stars and singers but three-fourths of these "addresses" are no longer any good.

If you know of ways to contact these people direct, please let us know. Contacting the studios that they work out of, gets us nowhere.

Current email addresses are best as they don't cost and we get to use the funds for mailing our pin-ups to the troops.

Stars! Volunteer your pictures!

If you're a star, how about volunteering a dozen autographed pictures?

There is no way for us to reach everyone to make our requests and many of our requests never make it to the people intended, so if you are a "star"; please help us out by volunteering a few pictures!!!

Five by sevens are prefered because they are cheaper to mail, but we'll gladly except eight by tens also.

Please add something like "Thanks For Your Service", "To An American Hero", "Keep Up The Good Work" or just "Thanks!". Anything to let the troops know that they are appreciated.

Cheerleaders! Please add the name of your team. We'll try to get your "pin-up" to the right fan.

Parents And Spouses!

If we're sending "pin-ups" to our troops, we need their addresses!

If you have a son, daughter or spouse who would enjoy receiving an autographed picture of a star, singer, cheerleader or sports figure let us know. We need their address in order to send a picture.
Let us know which type of picture that they would appreciate the most and we'll do our best to get one to them. Naturally, there are no guarantees! It depends on the response that we get in receiving the pictures.

Pin-Ups On Wikipedia

A pin-up girl or pin-up model is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as pop culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display. Pin-up girls are glamour models, fashion models, and actresses.

Pin-up may also refer to drawings, paintings and other illustrations done in emulation of these photos (see the List of pinup artists). The term was first attested to in English in 1941; however the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s.

The pin up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers, or be from postcard or chromo-lithographs, and so on. Such photos often appear on calendars, which are meant to be pinned up anyway. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced. They became an instant hit.

Many pin ups were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols. One of the most popular early pin-up girls was Betty Grable. Her poster was ubiquitous in the lockers of G.I.s during World War II. Other pin-ups were artwork, often depicting idealized versions of what some thought a particularly beautiful or attractive woman should look like. An early example of the latter type was the Gibson girl, drawn by Charles Dana Gibson. The genre also gave rise to several well-known artists specializing in the field, including Alberto Vargas and George Petty, and numerous lesser artists such as Art Frahm.

I enjoy collecting! It doesn't really seem to matter what it is, if it's old I'll hang on to it. So, most of my lenses are about collecting.
