Hottest Electronic Gadgets....Functionality vs Features.

Most people have their own opinions on what the hottest electronic gadgets are in today"s market.I think that people come to their conclusions from what functionality the gadget provides and how it can enhance their daily lives.

Functionality vs Features cont..

I don't want you to get confused because i know what your probably thinking right now.Features are what determine the functionality of each unique electronic gadget. This is true but i am talking about functionality for the end user. What function or service does it provide that makes it a must have in the users daily lives?

When people tell you about the coolest gadget they saw at the mall they usually just tell you the "cool factor" about the product. It does this or it does that(the features). The question is why is it cool to them? What does it offer them as the end user that provides some type of functionality?

I can understand the "cool factor" and why people get hung up on all the features some electronics may have but at the end of the day i still feel that consumers determine what the hottest electronic gadgets are based on their functionality into their daily lifestyle. Not just for the sake of cool features.

Functional Gadgets and Feature Overload

When i refer to functional gadgets i"m talking about electronics like Blackberries,mp3 players, digital cameras and so on.Devices that fill a need or provide a much needed service in our every day lives. To be honest, each individual determines what is a functional electronic based on their own needs and expectations. For the sake of clarity the three gadgets listed above are based on my needs, lifestyle and interests.

This example might help shed some light on what feature overload or overkill is and how it sometimes clouds our judgement as consumers.

I have a couple of friends that bought the new Blackberry and were very excited about all its cool features and couldn't wait to start using it.After a couple weeks of getting to know all its wonderful features they came to realize that this phone was a little more complicated than they had thought and that they didn't even use or need over half the features it boasted.Basically it was too much phone for their particular needs. The features of this phone did not meet their needs therefore it was not functional.

They didn't have a hectic or demanding work environment, they weren't business men or women and they certainly didn't run their own business. It is my opinion that this cell phone and others like it are for the purpose of managing tasks, organizing day to day events, networking etc..For business men and women that need organization and high efficiency on the go.This was not my two friends i guarantee that.

Now my wife and a few of my other friends who fall into that category of needing that type of mobile structure and convenience swear they couldn't live without it on a business level. It is that important to them for being as efficient as they can be day to day. This is a highly functional device for them.

Obviously you can see that my two friends went feature frenzy without looking first at how functional and practical those features were to them.

In the end i guess what i am trying to say is that the electronics we use daily cater to our individual needs.Remember more features means more money so don't get caught up in Feature Overload.Just because it has it doesn't mean you need it.Be smart as a consumer.

Hi, I am really looking forward to the the new Asus Eee PC T91. Think it should b launched this summer in the UK, it has a rotating screen. I think it should be a good piece of kit. I do feel that some gadgets or electronics get overloaded with features we as consumers do even use ever. Mobile phones are no longer just for making calls and have them easy to carry around, nowadays we have bricks in our pockets!
