What is a Romantic Crush?
The psychological term for a romantic crush is limerence. The term was coined by psychologist Dorothy Tennov to describe the ultimate, near-obsessive form of romantic love. The physiological correlations include heart palpitations, trembling, pallor, flushing, pupil dilation, general weakness - and excessively blogging your declarations of love.
At the behavioral level, crushes can induce awkwardness, stuttering, shyness, and confusion, as well as apprehension, nervousness, and anxiety.
Why It's Healthy to Have Crushes
Despite its psychological and behavioral side effects, romantic crushes can still be healthy for your heart, mind and soul. Plus, there's really nothing wrong with entertaining a harmless and brief fantasy with someone unobtainable. Crushes awaken our inner Eros and help us feel alive. Additionally, we use these energies to draw connections between the external world and the inner world of the collective unconscious.Marketing Man crushes are healthy. They inspire and motivate these wild web women to continue helping others engage in meaningful marketing while spreading marketing healing and empowerment across the great WILD web!
The Importance of Reciprocation
The best possible outcome of any romantic crush would be a mutual declaration of feelings and intent. Since an initial emotional investment has already been made, we are opening ourselves up to the risk of getting hurt.No matter how intensely reciprocation is desired it cannot simply be requested - unless said Crush-ee happens to stumble upon this Squidoo lens. (Yes, we are gutsy gals who are willing to risk public and premature self-disclosure in hope of reciprocation!)
And without further ado, Web Marketing Therapy presents their list of Top Marketing Man Crushes!
David Meerman Scott
DMS is a true thought leader. He also happens to have written the best marketing book on the planet: The New Rules of Marketing and PR. In this book, he asserts that the "old rules" of mainstream media no longer dictate how commercial messages are distributed and received. With the "new rules" of marketing and PR, just about anyone can use the web to reach their target audience directly. DMS is the real deal, and we admire him for practicing what he preaches. Seth Godin
Who can resist that shaved head and that freaky smart marketing brain inside? We love his entertaining and enlightening spin on all things marketing. Plus he encourages lensmasters to use Squidoo for good and even has his own marketing guru action figure. Not to mention he rocks our marketing world on a regular basis with his inspiring blog posts! Don Draper
Don Draper gets paid to be creative. And he looks good while doing it. As a fictitious advertising exec for Sterling Cooper on the critically acclaimed AMC series "Mad Men," Don enjoys two martini lunches and a multi-purpose couch in his corner office while saving 1960's Madison Avenue from uninspired advertising. Donny Deutsch
We know that an assertive and gutsy advertising guy is really nothing new. But the big idea behind Donny Deutsch is his ability to motivate and inspire regular people to turn mundane musings of "There's got to be a better way" into money-making realities! Donny, you can have us on your CNBC hit show The Big Idea any time Malcolm Gladwell
The tipping point for total infatuation with this geeky hot sociologist is not his pop culture status, his success as an international best-selling author, or even the fact that he has the best hair ever. When it comes to Malcolm Gladwell, we love him for his ability to seamlessly draw connections between the unexpected. His popular titles "Blink, "Outliers" and "The Tipping Point" take readers on an enlightening journey through the fields of psychology and sociology ... and the remarkable implications of the human subconscious on our environment, our circumstances, and the decisions we make. Barack Obama
This Blackberry-toting Commander-in-Chief changed the face of presidential campaigning with his brilliant web/mobile marketing campaign! By developing an extraordinary digital strategy complete with a 13 million member e-mail list and 3 million mobile and SMS subscribers, he built an online community to help him start his unprecedented movement for change. By engaging millions of everyday American citizens to be his advocates and active messengers, he beat the odds and won the presidency with a landslide victory. Jim Sterne
It's easy for us to be groupies of this web analytics evangelist. Jim Sterne is not only the founder of the eMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit and the go-to web guy for dozens of Fortune 500 companies, he is also a rock star when it comes to public speaking and we love his ability to get audiences excited about web analytics! He connects with audiences in the same way that he encourages other marketers to reach out and resonate with their target customers when conducting business online. Philip Kotler
This doctoral M.I.T. hottie and S.G. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management is a prolific author on all things marketing. From international marketing and brand management to hospitality, tourism, sports, arts and social marketing, Kotler offers great insight into the dynamic field of marketing. His popular text "The Principles of Marketing" is now in its 11th edition and is a must-read for marketing basics as well as understanding trends and movements in this ever-changing field. Guy Kawasaki
This money-savvy and innovative tech evangelist Twitters more than any marketing man we have ever known. He is the author of nine books including "Reality Check" and "The Art of the Start" in addition to his popular blog "How to change the world - a practical blog for impractical people." We are also big fans of Alltop.com - his online magazine rack aggregating popular headlines from all over the web. Who is Your Marketing Man Crush?

- While Guy Kawasaki's name may deserve to be on this list, there should be an asterisk next to the Twitter mention as he employs others to "tweet" for him. This is a quote from Lisa Barone of OutSpoken Media's live blogging of Guy's keynote speech at SESNY, "Guy admits that he has people who find things and tweet for him. He doesn't understand why that's a big deal and people are laughing." http://outspokenmedia.com/internet-marketing-conferences/twitter-social-media-tool
