House Of Night: A Great Young Adult Vampire Fiction Series
Around the age of 16, some young people have a mark appear on their forehead. This is a sign that the vampyre Goddess Nyx has chosen them to follow the vampyre way. Those that are marked are shipped out to the various vampyre training schools where the young people (referred to as fledgelings) are trained in the ways of becoming a powerful vampyre. The House Of Night is just such a school and our heroine Zoey Rebird has just been marked.
The series chronicles her coming of age in a time of crisis and upheaval among the vampyre people. Zoey is especially blessed by the Vampyre Goddess Nyx and rises to the level of priestess just barely after becoming marked.
I have really enjoyed reading this series despite being older (and I'm talking more than just a little older too) than it's target audience. Anyone with a love for vampire novels or the Twilight Series will enjoy this series fully. What I love about reading a novel series is you can slip seamlessly from one book to the next. As so often happens just about the time I really get connected to the characters, the book ends. Well with 8 books there is plenty of vampyre reading fun to be had before you get through them all.
The House Of Night Book Series is really a great fun light read for vampire fiction readers of all ages.

House of Night is a series of vampire-based fantasy novels by American author P. C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast. It follows the adventures of Zoey Redbird, a sixteen-year-old girl who has just become a fledgling Vampyre and is required to attend the House of Night boarding school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The series has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for 63 weeks and there are over seven million copies in print in North America alone. The sixth novel, Tempted, which went on sale on October 27, 2009 with a first printing of a million copies, entered the USA Today bestseller list that week at #1... The series has so far sold more than ten million books in 39 countries.

Zoey must turn to her school rival Aphrodite for help and finds a confident in all the strange and mysterious goings-on at the House Of Night school.

In this House Of Night book Zoey is miserable and feels like her life sucks and she's misunderstood. Her friends have turned away from her just when she really needs them.And the worst part is it's totally her own fault. The only two friends she has left are the undead Stevie Rae and the recently unmarked Aphrodite, who by the way hate each other.
There more tension here between the House Of Night Vampyres and the human world. Tensions are increased with the more unexplained murders and Neferet (Zoey's teacher and mentor) has gone off and declared war on the humans which Zoey just can't but feeling is the wrong move.

According to P.C. Cast, the concept for the House of Night novels came from her agent, who suggested the theme "vampire finishing school." The books take place in an alternate universe version of Tulsa, Oklahoma inhabited by both humans and "vampyres" (Cast uses this alternative spelling in the books, explaining it as a choice she made "just 'cause I like the way it looks". In this House of Night book, Zoey's has once again got her trusted group of friends helping her and Neferet and her Red Fledgelings have been exposed. But there's a new big bad in the form of a gorgeous warrior and Neferet's consort named, Kalona. Zoey fights her mysterious attraction for him which she struggles to understand.
The House Of Night School seems to have been placed under his spell and it's up to Zoey and her friends to finds out what's really going on. Zoey has yet more guy troubles and the introduction of Kalona and a potential past life experience she had with him just makes everything so complicated.
