Dust on Wikipedia
A more detailed definition...
Dust is a general name for minute solid particles with diameters less than 20 thou (500 micrometres). Particles in the atmosphere arise from various sources such as soil dust lifted up by wind, volcanic eruptions, and pollution. Dust in homes, offices, and other human environments contains human skin cells, small amounts of plant pollen, human and animal hairs, textile fibers, paper fibres, minerals from outdoor soil, and many other materials which may be found in the local environment.Kathleen Hess-Kosa, (2002), Indoor Air Quality: sampling methodologies, page 216. Dust Mites
About Dust Mites
* Adult female mites lay cream-colored elliptical eggs coated with a sticky fluid* Under optimal conditions, the cycle from egg to adult mite takes about one month
* Absorb water from the air
* Mites survive best a relative humidity of 70-80% and temperatures of 75-80 degrees F
* Freezing mites kills them
* Temperatures of 140 degrees F for one hour is lethal to mites
* Dust mites feed on human skin scales, pollen, fungi, bacteria, lepidopteran (moth and butterfly) scales, animal dander, and skin scales of birds

Three Ways To Fight Indoor Air Pollution
If you can control a pollutant brfore it becomes airborne, you're ahead of the game. Some source control strategies include the use of low emission paints, varnishes, and carpeting, no smoking, no pets, regular cleaning, and annual maintenance of combustion appliances.
You should also maintain optimum humidity levels. Use your air conditioner to control humidity in the summer and a duct mounted humidifier in the winter.
Ventilation
After source control comes fresh air ventilation. There is a solution for some homes that improves fresh air ventilation without the comfort or energy costs. It's called an energy recovery ventilator.
Aside from improving air quality, it can actually reduce utilities in certain circumstances.
Air Cleaning
Recommended for a whole-house approach is a duct mounted UV light and either a HEPA filtration system or an electronic air cleaner.
What is appropriate for your home can depend on your budget, comfort system, and family.
QuietFlex introduced an innovative flecible duct that can improve indoor air quality by radically reducing mold and bacteria, while eliminating formaldehyde out-gassing. The company states that the innoer core of the new AmgFlex Duct features an active, anti-microbial coating made of silver that interrupts the growth cycle of microscopic bugs that can plague traditional ductwork in warm, humid conditions.
A duct-mounted UV Air Purifier helps eliminate contaminated air particles that could be circulating through your home. It works continuously to destroy the bacteria and viruses that are cycling through your air conditioning or heating system, 100-150 times per 24 hour period. Maybe it's time you invested in a UV Air Purifier for your family's health and well being, and your peace of mind.
