How Big is a King Size Bed?

If you are buying a new mattress you are probably going to be asking the salesman how big a king size bed is. The salesman will probably tell you that a king size bed to 76 by 80 inches, but that is not really going to tell you exactly how big it is. The best way to figure out how big a king size bed is and whether or not it is going to work for you and your family is to plan in advance. Here are some of the things that you can think about when figuring out what size bed you should buy.

King Size Bed

What is great about a king size bed is that most people are going up be able to sleep on it lengthwise and widthwise. A king-sized mattress is going to be almost square, meaning that most people are going to be short enough to sleep on it whichever way they want. This can be especially comfortable if you are watching TV or if you just fall asleep for a nap and don't want to get under the covers.

Another thing you are going to be able to do on a king size bed is to sleep comfortably. If you like to spread out and your husband or wife also likes a lot of room to sleep, you may find a queen size a little cramped. With a king size mattress, you are going to definitely have enough room to toss and turn and sleep like you want to without disturbing your partner.

A lot of people talk about the advantages of a king size bed, but then forget about the disadvantages of having such a large bed. One disadvantage that a lot of people don't think about is that a big bed is going to take up a large portion of your bedroom. If you are living in a small apartment or even a small house, a king size mattress may end up looking out of place in such a small room. If the vast majority of your room is taken up by your bed, you are not going to have a lot of room for doing other activities in your bedroom. You definitely are going to have to measure your bedroom before purchasing such a large mattress.

Another disadvantage to having such a large bed is that you are going to have to maneuver it in and out of the bedroom. Make sure that before you purchase the mattress you measure it to make sure that it can actually fit up and around the stairs if your bedrooms on the second floor, and also make sure that it will fit around any tight corners that you have in your house. When you buy a new mattress, you are probably going to find that when you buy the mattress, the mattress store will deliver it to your door, but after that you are going to be responsible for lugging it around, and king size mattresses are really heavy and can be really difficult to move around.

There are some pros and there are some comments to getting such a large bed. When you ask the mattress salesman how large a king size bed is, he or she is probably going to just reply with 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, but you are going to need to know whether or not such a large bed is actually going to be practical.
