Start Your Family Tree with YOU.
The big picture - It is important to start your family tree information with yourself because it can be added to in an organized manner from there and it is the information that you know the best.
Next add your Father and Mother and then if you can add your both sets of Grandparents. Once you have added what you know then you can start the ancestor treasure hunt for more names and information.
How to Start your giant puzzle of your Family Tree. The first piece is YOU.
The reason I am repeating the first piece is because to often we don't do it - it is to easy - and we press on for the older ancestors.

The problem with not doing it correctly - is our information becomes a tangled mess (bits and pieces all over the place) and we have to go back to the beginning and sort it all out.
Photograph Family Trees are always fun to look at.

- I really enjoyed your lens. I am substitute teaching today in a highschool. The kids have been given an assignment to look into their family roots. But it is a challenge to motivate them. They just don't seem to understand how fascinating it can be. I'm printing out your lens - as I think it may inspire them. thank you!

- Hi there GramaBarb -- how the heck are you today? You know, I was just visiting another genealogy lens to see if they would be interested in having a Genealogy cobrand template -- something like SquidGen. I have created a number of lenses on this topic, to research our family tree. I think this is such a hot topic!
