People with anorexia restrict their food intake. They do dieting, fasting and excessive exercise. Eating a small amount of food becomes an obsession and as much as possible they do not eat at all.

Normally person with this illness always perceived themselves to be fat but the truth is they are so thin. They are afraid of gaining weight to the point that they measure the amount and the calories of the food. They are the expert in terms of caloric and fat computations. And most girls with obsessive-compulsive personality are prone to have this.

The Symptoms

Anorexia can be diagnosed with the following symptoms:
  • becomes malnourished, frail and very thin.
  • obsessed on weight control, facts about foods like calories, fat content, etc.
  • repeatedly weigh herself and very conscious on her weight.
  • only eats certain foods and avoid fattening foods.
  • doing exercises excessively.
  • feels fat even though she's very thin.
  • avoids social activities that is related to food or celebration involving foods.
  • can be depressed, lethargic and feels cold.

Bulimia Nervosa

bulimiaBulimia is somewhat related to anorexia. In bulimia, an individual eat excessively (binge eats) and then tries to compensate in a drastic way to prevent weight gain. This includes forced vomiting, use of laxatives, and excessive exercise which can be dangerous over time.

People with bulimia usually eat a large amount of food until she is full to eat any more. Then she secretly purge herself, forcing to vomit all that has been eaten. This should happen twice in a week for several months before considering it a case of bulimia. The person typically is powerless over the uncontrolled eating. With this, bulimic individuals tend to have a normal weight or even overweight.

The Symptoms

Bulimia has the following symptoms:
  • intense fear on weight gain.
  • unhappy with her body shape, size and weight.
  • excuses herself to go to the bathroom right after eating heavy meals.
  • regularly buys laxatives and enemas.
  • spends most of his time working out.
  • has an acidic breath and corroded teeth and mouth.
