The Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus
Nintendo's Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus were, perhaps, one of the best selling products this holiday season. It seems everyone wants a thinner new year than the year before. There are skeptics, however, that wonder if the only things getting smaller are the consumers' bank accounts.
I Got the Wii Fit for Christmas
This Christmas, I scored a Wii Fit and several other Wii accessories as Christmas presents. I must say, the Wii Fit is fitted perfectly to my lifestyle since I never leave my home. Christmas morning, I tore open the box, switched on the Wii, and began to set it up with my children shivering with anticipation behind me. To be honest, they are probably much more interested in Mario Kart, but it is enough that the TV is on before 9 in the morning.
Before I knew it, we had been on the Wii Fit for six hours. My daughters and I had a blast competing for the longest hulahoop contest, trying desperately to hit headers with soccer balls, while missing cleats and panda bear heads that were being tossed at us, and trying to outlast each others plank stances.
I must admit, it was fun. Embarrassing, sure... but fun.
The next morning, it felt like I had been assaulted in my sleep. I was sore from head to toe. The soreness didn't slow me down, however, and I spent the same amount of time on it the next day.

So, How Well Does the Wii Fit Work?
You have four different exercise areas to choose from: Yoga, Strength, Aerobics and Balance. The Yoga stances are a big challenge. They are pretty basic and probably wouldn't be a problem for a yoga master, but for someone who has never attended a yoga class, they are great. The strength exercises are also a challenge because more repetitions are added as you advance. There are also running challenges at different lengths, but do not over do it or you will fall on your Mii face.I am pretty sure that I have used my Wii Fit almost every day since Christmas. For a while, I would do each and every exercise each time, but the repetitive intros and outros get monotonous over time. I believe it would help Wii Fit tremendously if it had a section where you could build your own workout and move through it without stopping for every exercise.
I think the best thing about the Wii Fit is that you do see improvement after time and practice. I find that I am more conscious of my stance and posture now. I can feel every shift of my body that I make as I stand or sit still. Fro now, I do not have any balance problems. However, as I grow older, I can see how the Wii Fit will help me. One of the biggest dangers for older people is falling due to lack of good balance. By using the Wii to challenge our balance now, we can train them to have better balance for the future.
One of the coolest things about the Wii is how much it teaches you about yourself. For example, when I picture myself as blanced in my mind or as being held up by a string at the top of my head, my balance score is always much better. When I'm not balanced in my mind or my thoughts are scattered, my score is always much lower.
You Have to Try It to See if the Wii Fit is for You
In closing, the Wii Fit is not only super fun, but it can also be extremely helpful when training your body. There are also many very useful Wii Fit accessories like steps and weights to really help you push yourself with your routine. IT has definitely helped me to tone up parts of my body that I wanted to tone up. If you can push yourself without someone there to keep you accountable, then the Wii Fit is definitely for you.
However, if your motivation comes from being accountable to a real person with weights, exercise equipment, and new creative games in every workout, the Wii Fit may be little more than a dust collector in your home.
For me, the Wii Fit fits my lifestyle perfectly. There is still room for improvement. Luckily, I am hard headed and competitive enough not to let the dust settle.
