I think how fast you learn Spanish depends also on what is your native language. As if your native lalnguage is french or italian then it would be really easy and fast to master Spanish as latin languages are very similar.
I found this rocket spanish review very helpful and informative.
    Cheers

I am bilingual in English and Spanish. I have mastered both languages perfectly. However, I decided to learn French some time ago. I purchased two computer programs which are Rosetta Stone French and Rocket French. I began learning French with Rosetta Stone two months ago. The program is effective, after this short period of time I am able to have a small conversation in French, I can write, read, think and even dream in French. I have the full package which includes 5 software CD's, 5 audio CD's to download in your ipod or iphone. If you have an iphone you can download the Rosetta Stone application to reinforce your skill. Once I finish with the Rosetta Stone program after a few months then, I will continue with the Rocket French. This program will help me even further with French. It comes with15 CD's for interactive audio lessons, 1 CD software for games, 1 CD for language & culture lessons and 3 CD's for bonus audio tracks. I also read French articles and new vocabulary words everyday. Another good exercise I try is watching films with French audio with subtitles in French. l listen to French radio on the iphone when I'm away. Finally, I use Google Translate for words and full sentences and I write then down on a notebook and read them on a daily basis. I think with one year I should be in an advance level before I leave for Paris next year.

How long does it take to learn Spanish? in fact, the longer the better if you would like to really understand Spanish. You should spend as much time as you can. Only take part in some courses or learn by self with language software are totally not enough. the best is to live in the certain country.

Oh so true. I have wasted money on cheap programs only to be very disappointed. So far, I have managed to study a year of High School Latin, 2 years of High School and 2 years of college Spanish, and I have become quite fluent in Italian (currently living in Florence, Italy) and now I am studying French. I find good quality self study programs to be much better than my classroom experiences.
