How Long to Make Money on Squidoo Poll

Ranked #3,308 in Squidoo Community, #264,767 overall

How Long Did You Wait to Make a Sale?

I read a lot on Squid U about people being fired up because they made their first sale. Usually isn't anything to base retirement around, but exciting nonetheless.

But it raised a question: How long does it take most people to see some action? I also wonder what it's tied to; aggressive SEO, link placement specifically, pinging, quantity of lenses, just good writing or a great idea for a lens, or what? Was it a total accident?

Here's something that might get some doubters motivated: I became distracted by "life" for several months and just decided to forget about Squidoo entirely. I just logged in for the heck of it, and discovered I had earned $20. I has assigned any earnings to be donated to my charity of choice (which I had forgotten about) so I never heard anything. But what a great surprise! I was honestly stunned. My lenses are nothing to brag about.

Edit: I set up a poll for that as well: http://www.squidoo.com/jump-start-earnings

I think people become discouraged and give up, when some better expectation-setting could keep people hanging around. I don't read or come across many posts that are negative in nature about Squidoo, but I'm sure one of the complaints that exist is that it takes too long to make a sale. People by nature are impatient. But a realistic idea of what to expect could reduce balkers as well.

Within a week of being on Squidoo my ebook sales skyrocketed and all the traffic was coming from my lenses. Squidoo works! :)

I see that most people requires one month before they have their first sales. Then, there's me who is being impatient because not receiving my first sales after just......one week. I guess Patience is Virtue. Nice lens poll.

You have to make 50 great lenses and then you'll figure out how everything works. It's too hard to explain in a guest book. Best Wishes with your Squidoo Journey!

I can't remember! I do know I didn't start making serious sales until I started making serious sales lenses.

What do you feel made them serious? Front-end stuff like the topics, layout, content and product placement, or more focus on behind-the-curtains pinging, linkbacks, and the usual SEO, or some ratio of the two?
