How much does a Kindle cost?
How much is a Kindle? Why should we buy one?
The short answer: $139 US Dollars for the cheaper one... but keep reading if you are not convinced.
With so many electronic devices that exist today, one must ask: why to buy one more? The Kindle eReader managed to get away from the competition because it was built just for one thing: Reading books.
So, we get one more device like so many others to read digital books right? That could not be more far from the true.
So let´s see, how much is a Kindle and why we should buy one despite of the many offers out there in the market.
The Kindle eReader
Against the competition for a competitive price

Today in terms of Electronic devices we have so much. We get mobile phones, laptops, desktop computers, Iphones, and the biggest out there that could turn many people off from the Kindle eReader, the Apple Ipad.
Sure we can read electronic books in all of them, we can play videos, see photos and they all have Internet connection.
So, what does the Amazon Kindle so different from any other device that will make me buy one?
In the simplest answer, it is a eReader made just for that, to read books. No one wants to read a 300 page novel in a laptop. Or in that term, the Ipad. Why? The most important feature of the Kindle, or of any other eReader is the screen.
The Kindle reader screen is made of a special electronic ink that wont reflect sun light. Against all other devices, you can be out there reading your favorite book, newspaper or your documents in a PDF file, with all the comfort and without getting your eyes tired because of the light source reflecting the screen.
If you want a reader to play videos, then leave now, this is not for you. The Kindle eReader was made for people that enjoy reading a good book in a very light device and not having to worry about battery life, weight and memory space for your favorite ebooks.
The New Kindle Fire
The Latest Kindle from Amazon

The new Kindle Fire is Amazon attempt to contradict the dominance of the market by the Ipad. One should ask, why buying one? First we have the price compared to the iPad. With a price of $199.00, many analysts wonder why Amazon is losing money selling the new Kindle so cheap. In the media, newspapers, tech magazines, etc, it is know that Amazon is losing about $50.00 dollars per Kindle sold.
Maybe this is some strategy by Amazon to push Apple dominance to the limit. Still, if the Kindle was sold by $299.99, it was still a good buy considering that the iPad cost around $499.00.
One of the biggest advantages of the new Kindle Fire, is the Processor. Amazon decided (and well done) to make the Kindle Fire with a dual core processor. This is a big advantage in processor power and will deal with any demanding functions by the user, like watching video and be able to multi task with other applications at the same time.
"At $199 the Fire is less than half the price of the Apple iPad, which starts at $499.
It is the first tablet from a major company to seriously undercut the iPad in price."

Kindle features
What makes the Kindle so cool

Maybe one of the most important features of the Kindle is the special " E Ink" screen. High contrast on the text and unlike the normal LCD´s displays, the Kindle screen does not reflect sun light. You read it like a real book or a newspaper.
Another important feature of the kindle is the size and weight, 8.5 ounces and 1/3 of an inch thin. This makes the Kindle a ideal companion to anyone that enjoys reading but does not want to carry a big book but still wants the feel of reading it like it was on paper.
Since this is a device exclusive for reading books, the battery life is very important. No one wants to stress out about a depleted battery or having to recharge the battery while reading and having those nasty cables around. The official numbers are one full charge with an average of 1 hour of daily reading, gives for about one month, with the Wi-Fi off.
The price of books are so low, and many cost even less then that paperback version. You can get books and many of them bestsellers, from $9.99 making this a good time to increase your collection.
No more book space on your Kindle? No problem. Amazon retains all your book purchases in their servers and even if you delete any of them, you can download it again and even for different devices, not just your Kindle.

- I didn't know if I would like the Kindle until I got one and then I found I love it. You can download ebooks from other sources like Project Gutenberg but you have to do it using the cable attached to your computer. I think you can only use wifi for downloading from Amazon. Hey, they brought the device to market so I don't blame them.
There are plenty of inexpensive and even free books available on Amazon too.
Blessed.

- Me hates the Kindle...they've made it so proprietary that you have to buy all your ebooks from Amazon and it won't allow you to use the widely used ePub format. Our library has a digital book program and from what I know, I wouldn't be able to use them with a Kindle. I'm happy with my Kobo...no bells or whistles.

- I am sorry about that. I guess somehow Amazon also need some exclusive use. Still, buying books from Amazon is not that bad. They have a huge selection.
I am happy your Kobo works for you.
