How often do You Need to Redo Your First Aid Training?
Ranked #12,481 in Healthy Living, #199,742 overall
Once you have done your first aid training you may think that is the end of the matter, but it is not. You have to do refresher courses to ensure that you not only do not forget what you have learned, but stay abreast of all the latest ways to perform certain first aid activities.
For instance, years ago the way to treat snake bite was to cut between the puncture marks and suck out the blood containing the venom. Had you never done any upgrade or refresher courses you would not know that this form of treatment would now be looked on with horror. And years ago the way to treat drowning accidents was the turn the victim on his stomach and pump up and down on the lung area. The treatment given these days is quite different.

Learning CPR
It is quite easy to forget what you have learned if you are not called on to use it much or at all and this can and does happen. Not everyone has been affected by accident or injury or been involved in treating it. So taking a refresher course is always a good idea - and especially so for those who have learned CPR. CPR is the single most important thing you can administer to a person who is ill or been hurt. It is the only way to give them a second chance of life; that is why it is considered to be the one thing for which you must take a refresher course. In fact, to keep your certificate valid you need to do a refresher course in CPR every year. And while you may at first think that it is not really necessary, if you should do a little research you would find out that even the way to administer CPR has changed over the last decade. The medical world is constantly evolving and what was once an acceptable way to do things is frequently superseded by better ways.
