“How To Add A Pdf To Your Squidoo Lens Using Google Docs!”

Step #1: Log In To Your Google Account

#1: Log into your Google Account or
#2: Create a Google Account if you don't already have one (It's really easy-don't worry)

NB: You can also log in to your Google Docs account through your Gmail account. Just click on "Documents" in the top left corner of your screen.

Step #2: Here's What You Should See Once You Log In.

Step#3: Create A NEW Folder

Create a Squidoo folder to keep all your PDF's in that you want to share on your lenses (Keeps things super simple to find)

#4: Click on "Create NEW" to bring down the drop box.
#5: Click on "Folder" to make a new folder

Step #3a: Naming Your Folder

#6: Give you new "Folder" a name (I named my Folder "Squidoo" for easy reference- see below)
#7: Give you new "Folder" a description

Step #3b: I Named My Folder "Squidoo"

#8: Name your "Folder" here and give it a "Sub-Description" below
#9: You can click here to bring down the "Color Tab" to color your folder (Makes the folder easier to find if you have a lot of folders for different projects etc).
#10: Once your finished #8 & #9 click "Save" to continue.

Step #4: Uploading Your PDF

#11: Click on "Upload".

Step #5: Choose The Correct Destination Folder

You need to select the folder you just made for yourself

#12: Choose the correct "Destination Folder" before uploading your PDF ( a "drop-up" box will appear once you click here-see pic below #5a)

Step #5a: Highlight Your Folder

A "drop-up" box will appear:

Highlight your "Destination Folder" (#12) (In my case the "Squidoo" folder) & click "Ok" (#13) to continue.

Step #6: Change Privacy Settings

Change the privacy settings of your folder

#14: Click here and a "drop-up" box will appear with options to change the privacy settings of your folder (see below #6a)

Step #6a - A Drop-Up Box Appears

Change the settings here

#15: Change the privacy settings of the folder to "Anyone With A Link". You need to change these settings to this setting so that later on you will be able to share the link that you will get from Google Doc's to give to people to view your PDF from your Squidoo Lens.

Step #7- Selecting The PDF To Upload

#16: "Drag & Drop files here" or
#17: "Select files to Upload" (This is the option I prefer to use- see below #7a)

Step #7a: Select Files To Upload

#18: Select the PDF you want to upload from your computer

Step #7b: Start The Upload

Once you see your PDF appear here... then (#19) Click on the "Start Upload" button

Step #7c: Completed Upload

Here's what to do next

#20: This is where your completed PDF download will appear (a green tick beside it means it has been a successful download)
#21: Click "Back To Google Docs" to continue...

Step #8: Back At Your Folder

Clicking on the "Back To Google Docs" link takes you back to your folder (the folder that you made to keep your PDF's in)

Now.. Do you see what I see?

You should now see your newly upload PDF file (In my case I uploaded "theFiveBumMarketingMistakes" PDF into my "Squidoo" named folder as pictured above)

Step #8a: How Do I Get The Link To Share?

P.S We're almost there :)

#22: Right click on your PDF (it should now be high-lighted) >> Move you cursor over "Share" then click on (#23) "Sharing Settings" (as pictured above). This will take you to...

Step #9: The LINK!!

Congratulations you did it!

#24: This is the "RAW LINK" you will get from Google Docs to share your PDF on your Squidoo lens.

Here's my link that I got:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0Bw7IrnzFGnraMjJh
MmNiNjEtYWM1Ny00M
zA5LWE5NTUtNzdiYjIxZTk3YjQz&hl=en&authkey=COeCm_QP

Problem is the "Raw Links" are usually pretty darn long & ugly! So if you want to fix that... here's what to next

Step #9a: Shorten The Link With A URL Shortener (with Analytics)

URL shorteners take a long URL and make it into a short URL. The main advantage here with a URL Shortener with Analytics though is that you will get more information on who's clicking on or sharing your links.

I like and use Scrnch.me because of this feature: You can get to it here or use your own URL Shortener if you already have one.

Otherwise you can check out my URL Shortener Resource page for more options that my suit you.

Step #9b: Putting The Shortened Link Into Your Squidoo Lens

This is the easy bit :)

I like to use a simple "Text Module" for this layout (see next section below-"Google Docs in action" to see how this works)

Before You Get To "Google Docs In Action"...

Can I ask you for a favor?

Once you click on the graphic below you will be taken to the "Google Doc" PDF that I've uploaded for this demo of how this works in a Squidoo lens.

Once you have finished viewing the PDF can you please hit the "back-arrow" on your browser (Internet Explorer, firefox, Chrome, etc) to get back to this page so that you can either, "thumbs-Up" (if you thought this guide was useful) or, leave a comment in the Guestbook... or both.

This would mean a great deal to me...Thanks in advance :)

This module only appears with actual data when viewed on a live lens. The favorite and lensroll options will appear on a live lens if the viewer is a member of Squidoo and logged in.

NB: Yes I automate DM's and I auto follow people, why? For one automating DM's is just smart and efficient.. Period!

Why do I auto follow? Because I don't think I am so amazing or that I am any better or more important then anyone else on twitter, if they follow me, I follow them, if they spam me then I drop them (Sad but True)

URL Shortening Resource

URL shortening services were initially popular because web addresses started to get really long and the links would break when sent in emails. Not good! Then what happened is an increasing number of services and applications became available as microblogging services, like Twitter, came out of no-where and became very popular. A lot of these URL shortening services have even included tracking & metrics to their basic URL shortening features. Which means you can get a lot more information on who's clicking on or sharing your links.

Below is a list of the URL shortening services that I have used and personally like the most, and also some new URL Shortener recommendations that I have become aware of. (You can also add to this list with your own recommendations)

Scrnch

Here's a brief list of the features that Scrnch Me provides (in the Free version)

With the Scrnch.Me URL service you can:
Customize any URL like this one: http://scrnch.me/Cloak-Me.
Cloak & Protect Your Affiliate Links and Tracking IDs.
Track your Click Thru Stats to see which URL is getting more action.
Track your URLs on the Scrnch.Me site which generates more traffic.
Push / Publish your custom URLs to dozens of Social Media sites (see the Premium services page for the complete list of social media sites available)
Remove the "hoplink" in your URL and use your own domain name instead Install the Scrnch.Me php scripts on your server and do all of this remotely

Supr

It's Stumbleupon's URL shortening service.

With Su.pr you can do the following: Post (and automatically shorten) your URLs to your Twitter and Facebook Wall or Fan Page.

Schedule your posts at optimal times.
Get suggestions for best posting times.
Reporting and graphs for your posts.
Exposure for your content to the entire StumbleUpon community.
Ability to highlight the best pages on your domain along with the main post.
Advanced options for your own custom short URLs.

Tiny.ly

About Tiny.ly

tiny.ly is a free URL shortening service. It helps you to turn long URLs into tiny ones, for sharing on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, and also provides you with realtime traffic statistics for your links.

Share tiny.ly Links with anyone
tiny.ly makes it simple to share links with anyone via Twitter.com, Facebook, blogs, SMS, etc. Users get the benefit of seeing a tiny friendly URL, rather than a long URL which may not fit on Twitter's 140 character limit.

Realtime Stats
You can use tiny.ly without an account, but joining is simple. Registered users have the added benefit of being able to access their tiny urls in order to view realtime traffic statistics, and modify their URLs in the future.
