Squid-Cast: How to Add Modules
Ranked #14,272 in Computers & Electronics, #293,384 overall | Donates to Room to Read
You've made your first lens and want to add new modules. Here are step by step instructions with screenshots.
Step 1: Edit This Page

My Lenses
The first step to adding new modules is to go to the workshop page for your lens. One way is to click on the My Lenses link which appears when your mouse is directly over My Account at the top of any Squidoo page. (You do have to be logged in.)
This brings you to a list of your lenses. From this page you can view any of your lenses by clicking on the eyeball next to it. You can view lenses with a similar lensrank by clicking on the number. You can also view the stats for any of your lenses.Edit: Harry Potter Music
To add modules on the workshop page you can click the pencil next to the lens name. You can also click directly on the lens title.
I will be adding two modules, a quick poll and an RSS feed, to Harry Potter Music.
Step 2: Add Modules

Add Modules
On the top left corner of the workshop page is the Add Modules button. There is also one on the bottom left of the page. Click on it to see the different modules available.
From this page you can also reorder modules, discard this draft or keep this draft.

Add and Add Another
There are many different types of modules. They are organized under the tabs: New, Basic, Moneymakers, etc. Click on a tab to see a list of modules. To add a module, click on "Add" next to the module name.
You can add as many modules as you like. You can even add more of the same module by clicking "Add Another."
Step 3: Reorder Modules

Save
New modules are added to the bottom of the lens. If want want to move them to a different part you may do so before returning to the main workshop page. Click Preview Lens Layout to see a list of the modules on your lens.

Drag and Drop
To move your new module click on the arrows on the left of the module name. Then drag it to the spot you want to put it.
While on this page you might decide to move other modules. You can move any of the modules not just your new ones.
After moving your modules, don't forget to save.
Step 4: Add Content

Edit Module
Now you can fill your module with interesting content. Click edit to begin.

Start with the title
Each module has different fields to fill out. For my poll module I asked readers to vote on their favorite Harry Potter soundtrack. You can see the final look here.
After adding your content, don't forget to save the module and publish the lens.
Different Modules
Now that you know the basics, try adding a variety of modules to your lens. There are dozens of modules and more being added. Here are some links to lenses that show what can be done with different modules

- I am brand new here and trying to create my first lens. I tried to add a Link List module, and pasted in a list of links and descriptions, clicking Save after adding each one, but after I finished, it was not saved and did not appear on my lens. This happened twice and it is very frustrating. How do I get it to save?

- Without having spent a year looking EVERYWHERE here, I can't locate how to LIST my lenses under several categories or topics like health, automatically, without having to re-do the lens forty times, so people looking in other categories besides "Business" find me. I already sent a general feedback to "headquarters" about the absurdity of "EDUCATION" NOT being one of the topics. I figured out how to make people smarter, by several experts' accounts. Obviously, that has applications beyond business, where I first "listed" the lens.

- Damon,
Thanks for answering my question in advance. :)
I read some where that you can add more text/write modules. When I click on add module, that is not an option? How can I do this?
Thanks,
Kristen
