Add Google Analytics to Tumblr in 5 Easy Steps
So you've just started yourself a brand new Tumblr account and are looking for better metrics for this popular social network. In this lens I'll show you how to add your Tumlbr Account to Google Analytics in 5 easy to follow steps with screenshots. It's really not hard to do and should only take up 5 mins or so of your precious time.

Step 1
You need a Gmail account. Don't have one? Get one!
You'll need to have a Gmail account to set up Google Analytics. If you don't already have a Gmail account, you can quickly sign up for a Gmail account here. This portion of the tutorial might add on 3-5 minutes depending on how fast of a typer you are if you don't have a Gmail account. For those that do let's move onto setp 2. Step 2
Setting Up Google Analytics for the First Time
Once you have your Gmail account you'll have to head over to http://www.google.com/analytics/ to set up your new account. When you sign in you should see the following page.

Sign up and enter a descriptive name for your account then under the url enter your Tumblr account information. It will be something like naterules.tumblr.com.

Step 3
Set Up Google Analytics Tracking Code
You'll now need to add tracking code to your Tumblr account. I chose a single domain. If you want to add more sites to your Analytics account you can add new profile to the same account.

Copy the javascript generated out of the box below for pasting into step 4.

How To Add Google Analytics Tracking Code to Tumblr
Go to your Tumblr account and paste your tracking code into your Tumblr Dashboard. Hit save once your done and move onto step 5. Almost done.
Step 5
Login and Wait for Google Bot
Once your tracking code has been added to your Tumblr description it will take a little bit of time to be crawled by Google bot. Once it is you will see a green arrow next to your account indicating that the code was set up correctly. You wont see any information until tomorrow as Analytic stats are available in 24 hour increments.

- Yep you sure can. This is for the older version of Analytics, which people still have the option to use. I'm going to make a new lens for the new version of Google Analytics as it's different than what's posted here.
