Learn how to apply make up!

Applying makeup is fairly difficult. If you don't do it right, you can end up looking like a clown or a prostitute! Learning to put makeup on properly takes time and patience, and LOTS of practice!

You may have been applying your own makeup for many years and you feel you still don't have it right. You know what? ME TOO! I started wearing makeup at 13. I tried to learn how to do it by reading 'Teen and Seventeen magazines. I got some great tips, but they just didn't help me until I kept practicing and practicing. Honestly, I looked like a clown until I was about 15. Two years of applying makeup EVERY day until I started to get it partially right!

Honestly, it wasn't until I was about 20 years old when I finally got "decent" with applying makeup. I still couldn't put eyeliner on correctly. Actually, I JUST learned how to put pencil eyeliner on correctly a few days ago by watching a video online! (Wanna know a secret? I STILL can't put liquid eyeliner on worth a darn!)

Keep practicing. Learn the tips, practice often, and remember, it's better to apply too little than too much!

Use the Best Makeup

Always use the BEST makeup you can afford!

I know you may be tempted to buy the cheapest cosmetics you can find, but please DON'T do this! Aside from eyeliner pencils, I NEVER buy the cheap crap. It'll usually cake up, clump, wear off, or not apply well.

I recommend MAC cosmetics. They're absolutely the BEST. Maybelline and Cover Girl are pretty good if you can't afford MAC. Maybelline makes GREAT mascara. I like some Revlon products, especially their lip products.

Please, just don't buy the cheapest stuff, because most of it is just awful!

Top Makeup Tips

These are the best tips I've learned for applying makeup.
  1. Apply foundation first. Then apply concealer under the eyes and to any blemishes or imperfections. Blend the two together with a large brush. Then apply loose powder.

  2. Always apply primer before applying eyeshadow. This helps keep the eyeshadow from wearing off, and also keeps it from caking and looking clumpy.

  3. Apply gloss only to the center of the bottom lip to make lips look fuller.

  4. Apply pencil eyeliner from UNDERNEATH top lashes, not above. This prevents the pencil from appearing as though it doesn't reach the lash line. Tug at the skin over the eyelid to pull eyelashes up, then use a windshield wiper motion with short strokes to apply pencil eyeliner to the base of the lashes.

Top Makeup DON'Ts!

This is my list of the biggest makeup mistakes!

  1. Don't use too much blush! If you apply too much blush, use a large brush with a little loose powder to blend it in.

  2. Don't wear makeup shades just because you like the color! Choose makeup that looks good with your skin color, hair color, and eye color.

  3. Don't extend eyeliner too far past the outer eye corner unless you're going clubbing. Never go further than 1/4 inch past the outer corner of the eye for an everyday look.
