The problem with a lot of people these days when trying to build backlinks is that they are all trying to make money and they want it fast so they believe that the quicker they get their content indexed and backlinks to that content, they are going to make money faster. Well, that is possible but in the real internet world, if you don't have a huge email list, this just isn't going to happen. You go out and start building a zillion backlinks because you beleive that if you get all these links, Google will love your content and it will see your content as being something special because you got all these links..wrong!

Now I won't go into website age and importance as I have had new websites ranked within hours so to me this is a kind of myth. i want to talk about the measures that peole undertake to gain backlinks by following incorrect advice.

If you are trying to make money with your website then you need to get traffic. Traffic comes from all those backlinks that link to you from all over the internet. So the more places yopu can get backlinks, the more chance that you will get traffic from these off page sources. Before you can get backlinks, you need to have content. The whole point of having a backlink is to get people to your website where they will find additional information that you are providing that they will hopefully find useful.

The trouble here is that people create content and publish their content to places that are just not relevant to their website. They focus on getting links from sources that are totally off the topic of their website and here lies the problem. You see, if you have an article that talks about gardening and you go out and create backlinks from websites that are based on flying kites, then the search engines will look at this information and probably not rank you on these types of backlinks as the content is not even similar to yours. It is the same thing when people go posting comments on hundreds of websites that are just full of other spam commnets and are websites that are also nothing content related in any shape or form. These types of websites have a very low if any page rank at all and end up being useless. Even more to the point, these types of websites encourage mass linking which in the eyes of the search engines is just not natural and all the work that is being done is a complete watse of time and that is when people start to question why their websites are not getting traffic and not getting high search engine positions. Some people will argue here with me about what I am going to write. I would expect that because they wil have heard some blackhat method works fantastic and this technique works for others and all that rubbish. I on the other hand have to be completely honest here and admit that I have tried some of these methods and they don't work. I have had websites sandboxed and low search engine results and it turned out to be a watse of my time and hard work so I don't do it anymore.

Backlinking should be done as naturally as possible. Ask yourself how many website could you visit a day and post a backlink on? That includes registering on the webiste, filling out all your profile stuff, writing content for these websites and publishing it? 10? 20? 30? The answer would all depend on how much time you are willing to dedicate and how much patience you have in doing all this manual stuff. The most natural way of creating backlinks is to do it manually and gradually. You have to think long term here and not approach it like you have to build a certain amount of links for a particular webpage that you want to drive traffic to for a couple of weeks. This is possible but you want your backlinks to drive traffic to your website on a long term basis and you want them to stick. After all you are looking to become a Backlink Profit Monster.

When building backlinks, take into consideration your content. You should look for websites that share a topic or a sub topic that is related to yours and publish content on those websites. Content related backlinks are so much more beneficial that unrelated links.There is also a lot of talk about page rank of the websites that you get links from. Pagerank is important and this is another factor that you should seriously consider. One thing I want to mention here about pagerank and that is not to get too disheartened if you find a content related website that has no page rank. Just because it has no pagerank now, who is to say in a few months time that the website will not have a pr of 3 or something? The point is, if the content is related to your content then grab it.

If there is one method that will never ever lose its effectiveness, it has to be Article Marketing. I don't care what anyone says about this technique, it is and always will be the best way to build high quality backlinks.

I think the main reaon why people disagree with article marketing and its power is the aspect of writing articles. Ok, we all ca't be budding writers and I fully understand that but that is no excuse really. I hate writing articles but at the end of the day, if you want content and you want traffic then at least give it ago. If you do get stuck writing articles then you can use various tools to help you. I myself use rapid rewriter which is probably the best tool available to help anyone write articles quickly even if they have never written before.

Once you have written articles, you can publish them to the top article directories and web 2 sites. These web 2.0 sites are still effective if you use them properly and publish good content. Article directories need no explaining but they are great for getting some good traffic and high pr backlinks. The more article you publish, the more traffic and backlinks you will generate. I have lost count on how many articles I have in my article network, I know its alot and they get me some good traffic and links.

Of course there is the forum route where you go join forums that discuus topics along similar lines to your website content. You can join in various discussions on these websites and leave a link back yo your website in your posts signature.

These are just a couple of effective ways in which you can build backlinks. No matter how you choose to set about it, remember, do it in the most natural way that you can and get relevant backlinks that the search engines can award you with the right and most desrving ranking for your webiste.

Prior to doing that you will need to send them a personal message, and be as direct as you can; otherwise use their name at the start and state that you are willing to contribute to their website.

Once you have gotten a response make sure you right a very unique article for them and provide a link to your website at the end of the article. I usually leave my links out of the body unless it is relative to what I am writing about. This is really my favorite method I use to get a backlink from authority sites.

Furthermore, once they are happy with your work you can network with people, and build backlinks to internal pages on your site. This helps them by giving them free quality content, and also helps you buy getting great authoritative backlinks. Its a win, win!

One more word of advice, ask for references and keep a excel spreadsheet of backlinks you have acquired. These references can lead you to huge websites with lots of link juice.
