Why Be The Funny One?
Women love funny guys. In fact, the word "funny" or "fun" has been used to describe the man women desire more than "sexy" or "cute".
A laughter is the best ice breaker. It makes a date a relaxing encounter where everyone she can let her hair. In other words, it breaks tension. A good laughter changes the chemical components of our blood from distress to eustress. It literally is the best medicine!
Laughter grabs people's attention. It makes people wake up. You can be a hero just by making people laugh: you saved them from boredom. When you are humorous, you automatically connects to whoever you are speaking. The encounter is a memorable one. When you are given information when you laugh, you are more likely to remember. People will remember you!
It makes you look good.
But being funny is hard work especially for those men who aren't a "natural". There are few, if any, "naturals". Most comedians, even professional ones, practice for hours before a show. Just like everything you are really good in, it has to be ingrained into your brain such that you can execute without thinking and the only way to achieve that is to practice and..... practice more.
The Settings
The Place Is Just As Important As The Joke
Some people just don't get this. The place and mood when you are being funny is just as important as what you saying. If you are attending a funeral, don't make jokes there. People are just not in the mood to laugh.Therefore what you want to do is lighten up the setting. Play some upbeat music and chill out. The first thing you need to do is get everyone to relax and cut yourself some slack. If you are under too much pressure, it is very difficult to be funny. It's like the palace jester trying to make the king laugh just to save his life. A joke is not life altering. It's no big deal.
And know the people you are talking to. If you are talking to a bunch of 70 year olds and making jokes about Britney Spears.... who cares? But that same joke can make younger people laugh their teeth off. People have to KNOW what you are talking about. Some jokes are funny in certain countries but in other countries.
Know you people. Know your place. Know your setting.
How To Be Funny
Be unpredictable. Consistency and predictability is boring. Take people off guard and surprise them them. The element of surprise is often the key factor is most jokes. That's why the second you hear them, it's not funny. For example,"I asked out this really hot girl for tea and some biscuits. She doesn't seem to be happy with the idea of giving blood though."
Say the obvious. Part of the reason the obvious is funny is because people also doesn't expect the obvious.
You give a friend a present and she asked, "what is it?" You replied, "a present"
Imitation can be very funny if you know what you are doing. However, you really have to know who you are talking about. You don't want to be making Hitler jokes for a bunch of ex-Nazi soldiers. There are tons of other ways to be funny. I can list them all here but will still fail to be funny. The most important part of being funny is not knowing all these. The most important part to being funny creativity and practice. See a situation in a different light.
Important Tips
Timing is very essential to pulling a joke. A joke book arms you with several jokes you can use when something happens. Always always get the timing right.
