How to beat inflation and insure your family against harder times

Ranked #7,331 in Healthy Living, #124,846 overall

Just a Quick Note Before I Start

I know we are living in very hard times now, but I am sorry to say that on the worlds present course, we are headed for much worse. I say world because we are now living in a world economy and it only takes one country to default to start a domino effect. I am not here to use scare tactics but wanted to explain my title of "harder times". I am not an economist so I will not be making predictions, but if you pay attention at all you know, things do not look good. We are either headed for a depression like no other in history or hyper-inflation, neither of which is good. So my only point here is: in all likelihood things will get rougher before getting better. So, while you are working and have some expendable income it is a very good idea that you insure your family against harder times. So, what are your families most important needs? Well mine, and I would venture to guess yours too, is food and shelter in that order. The first I can help you with and the second I wish I could. Maybe that will be my next lens :). So read on you will be glad you did

Prepare For The Worst And Hope For The Best

Wise Foods long term emergency foodStocking up on long term storage food isn't just for emergency survival. It's also your insurance against inflation and harder times. Its always a good idea to have at least a months worth of food on hand but I recommend 3 or more depending on your budget.
Think about it you can feed a family of 6 for 1 month for as little as $435.00. You would have to be a pretty thrifty shopper to beat those prices in a grocery store today. So that's the cost today but what about a year from now or 15 years from now. God forbid you've lost your job or find yourself in harder times. Can you imagine what a months or 3 months worth of food will cost in 15 years? With a 25 year shelf life you've just beaten the heck out of inflation and if you do find yourself in harder times or have lost your job, you've given yourself one less thing to worry about. Its great peace of mind in trying times to know your family will still eat well.

Why Prepare

US DebtTake it from someone who as been through several major disasters, preparing is something everyone should be doing. Besides disasters, there is always the uncertainty of job loss or the very real possibility of economic collapse. Preparing for these kinds of events is no different than buying insurance. We buy insurance to protect us from things we hope do not happen. Well this is no different except you get something for your money.
Then there are events like Katrina. How different would the lives of those people have been had they had a stock of food or a hurricane disaster kit. It doesn't change there loss but it sure would have made there lives easier while they waited for rescue. So take it from someone who knows its much better to plan ahead and give yourself peace of mind because we are all vulnerable to the future.

What You Should Be Buying

So what kind of long term storage food should you get? Well I recommend Wise Foods Companies line of long term storage food for several reasons. They are one of the best tasting pre-made foods on the market. They use a combination of both freeze dried and dehydrated foods. This gains the advantage of maintaining both the nutritional value and taste at the same time. They are downright affordable and they come in easy to prepare 2 to 4 serving pouches instead of # 10 cans. Two major problems with the # 10 cans, once they are open you are stuck eating a large portion of one kind of food because you have to use up the whole can before it spoils and secondly if you are in a disaster or for some reason have to move your food stock can you imagine trying to move a months worth of food stored in #10 cans? In the pouch and bucket style of food storage you simply grab the bucket handle and go, you've got a months supply of a variety foods. By the way a bucket is light enough a child can carry it. So for me it's kind of a no brainer.

Your articles really are good. This one for some reason though has two content modules at the top of it so you may want to remove one. Best of wishes for your success here. The information that your articles contain really is important to get out there to as many people as possible.

For those with savings it is imperative that you pay as little tax on your interest as possible.

If those at the top of the financial ladder are employing such emergency measures, what does it mean for those lower down the scale when it comes to considering their own debt management?

The recent turbulence in global financial markets has led to unprecedented moves by many governments to reinstall confidence in financial institutions, effectively plugging a perceived capital gap. Good job!

This is not to say that inflation will not reach that level. Thanks for the information guys.

Currently inflation stands at 5.2% per year, and while many of us can instantly recognise a sharp rise in the price of basic goods the rate is nowhere near the 50% a month that is a characteristic of hyperinflation.

Although as a nation we are in a financial crisis, we are still some way from a depression.
  • jamessmith2123 Dec 25, 2011 @ 8:37 am | delete
This is not to be confused with hyperinflation, which is the rise of prices as a currency devalues uncontrollably.

This essentially makes money stored in savings accounts worth less over any stated period.

Put simply, negative interest rates mean that prices of goods are increasing faster than interest gained from saving.

Inflation is worsening. Many of us are struggling with debt management as it is, with mortgages, finance deals, utility bills, loans, credited cards and overdrafts to contend with.

Do not go for every other coupon unless the saving is substantial. Check out the typical price of the product to see if the bargain is worth going for.

It sounds like you've really done the research and testing of different brands, so I trust your judgment on the Wise Foods Companies line. I'm truly amazed that they can last up to 25 years without spoiling. Your point about inflation is a good one, even more reason to stock up sooner than later. I also thank you for offering an additional discount to the readers here, every little bit truly helps, and the peace of mind of being prepared for any kind of disaster (whether geographic/weather/financial related) is going to be priceless!
