    amazing

Ah, the good o'l 419 scam! And people are still falling for them. Sad but true.

I am receiving about 4 emails every day from 'banks' asking me to 're-activate my banking account', Problem is, I don't even bank at those banks!
  • kar351 Apr 6, 2012 @ 8:03 am | delete
If I had 1 cent for each email of this kind....oh well you I could be very rich indeed.
My new spam emails that sometimes I got, are really funny: 1st- "Please check your WoW account. Your account was investigated for miss behavior and suspended. We check your account activities and did not find any problem with it. Please click here for activate your account. Thank you, Blizzard support."

Hold on! I do not play WoW! :S

2nd- Now this is even more funny, but in a way, dangerous too. I got some emails claiming that I have videos on my Youtube account with....hmmm....ped*** videos and other dirty stuff..... right.... like youtube was a adult video website.
Click here to reactive your youtube account....
ops, brb, need to feed the dog..... oh right I do not have a dog.

In a more serious matter now, I think this is the raw and cruel true of the internet. The most funny ones are about online games, trying to get my passwords, they are funny cause I dont even play those games.
When I check the emails addresses the sender uses, it seams like a generator of emails that goes by all the letters and numbers. My email starts with K, and when I see where the email was sent, there is hundreds of emails starting with the letter K and multiple combinations. I always report this kind of emails.

I will give you my 5* (*****) to this lens. Just because it is funny, but also sad because many people with less experience on the internet just fall in this kind of stuff.

My most dangerous one, and first time I ever saw it, was from paypal. Something saying my account had a problem or was locked or something. At the time I got scared (my squidoo earnings...glup) but then I just stop for a second... Wait a minute, "www.paypal.co" ????? lol
I went to the site and it was a perfect copied page of the login page of payapal.

Imagine if I did not noticed....

Thank you for sharing this. Best of luck
    p.s.
    sorry for the long reply

This is such a great lens! Totally made my morning! Somehow, my name got on some kind of XXX list! It's so frustrating, I can't seem to get rid of them! EEK!
  • MsSnow4a Mar 18, 2012 @ 1:51 pm | delete
I get them all the time and i just look and laugh at all the grammar areas these well educated people have.

Where is the part that I can become a billionaire in 3 minutes? I thought I was going to be a billionaire. By the way an excellent lens on what to look for and how to possible not get caught up in one of these scams. Thanks

fun and funny and informative--great lens!!
  • vallain Jan 19, 2012 @ 1:57 pm | delete
I love it! You did such a good job with these spam letters and giving me a laugh, that I hope you are going to make a page about the "I'd like to meet you" letters I've been getting on Facebook, email and any other place I have a profile.
  • senditondown Jan 18, 2012 @ 8:28 pm | delete
Have had quite a few of these million dollar emails over the years. One in particular to our ministry.

Hope others will see the wisdom in not getting involved with these people...a fake by any other name is still a fake!

    Good lens.
  • snape21 Jan 14, 2012 @ 8:21 pm | delete
normally my over cautious approach keeps me out of theese troubles, but then i hear stories about fake delivery parcel notes being pushed through the door , the card urges the victim to call a number which costs them £400 once the call is connected.

seems we have to have our ears and eyes open to aviod these scams. I quote "If its too good to be true, then it probally is"

Gosh, those are the same people who are willing to share with me. I wonder how it happened that we have both been noticed by the same strangers an' we live so far apart? Hmmmm; strange goin's-on, if you ask me.

You have some very interesting pages. I'm looking forward to reading more of 'em. I wanna' thank you for your support on my What Is A Balloon Christmas page, recently. I also wanna' wish you a very Happy New Year!

With all the spam emails I've received I'm soon to be the richest man in the World....hopefully. Very funny lens it just shows the lengths some of these people will go to to get our money, maybe if they spent their time more productively they would actually make some money. Nice lens.
  • seedplanter Dec 11, 2011 @ 9:30 am | delete
I know...isn't it amazing how many are out there who will try this stuff? Thanks for visiting. I appreciate that you took time to leave feedback.
  • jays23 Dec 6, 2011 @ 6:29 am | delete
I consider these spam emails as my source of entertainment. It is just so hilarious what scheme they can cook up. From a dead uncle's will to a billionaire who needs help getting out of a camp (I thought he belonged to an asylum) and would transfer money just to help him out. I suggest read the emails for some humor then DELETE them!
  • seedplanter Dec 6, 2011 @ 11:23 am | delete
Jay, I know...I have to admit they ARE entertaining. I just can't imagine having that much time on my hands! These people must never sleep!
  • JoshK47 Dec 5, 2011 @ 9:18 am | delete
Shoot! You mean that Nigerian prince will never get back to me with a few million? Great lens. :)
  • seedplanter Dec 5, 2011 @ 9:34 am | delete
Hey Josh! Nope...sorry. I think he's out shopping at Target.
    Thanks for the visit. :)

people better quit the spam or i'm going to report them to the police department.
  • gevans411 May 31, 2011 @ 9:35 pm | delete
I interesting saw an article talking about the most successful words a spammer can use in their email subject lines is "You are not alone" - not sure what this says about spammers or what people feel when they are sitting looking at their computers all day long.
  • seedplanter Dec 5, 2011 @ 9:37 am | delete
Sorry I didn't see your comment before! oops.
I agree...it's disgusting how spammers prey on the emotions of people and if they find the right person who has a kind heart, they've hit the jackpot. To think that someone is out there planning to rob someone this very minute is just awful. Thanks for taking time to leave feedback. I do appreciate it.

Loved your sense of humor here. Thanks for finding something positive about this nasty issue!
  • seedplanter May 18, 2011 @ 1:35 pm | delete
ShirlW, sometimes we just gotta laugh, right? I have a better spam filter now, too, except I feel the need to check it so it doesn't catch any of my regular mail. Thanks for taking time to comment!
  • Jewelsofawe May 17, 2011 @ 6:53 pm | delete
I have heard of these. They have to live with themselves and their lies.
  • karmicchristian Apr 25, 2011 @ 5:15 am | delete
Very interesting lens. Nice reading about the spam mails as long as it is not in the inbox. :)
Cheers! Thank you and have a nice day.

I have to comment....'cause I relly enjoyed your lens, and replies to the scammers. nicely done.
  • ShamanicShift Feb 27, 2011 @ 1:42 pm | delete
Heheh, I don't dare open any because sometimes that itself releases a virus -- have had to manually remove 3 nasties from the registry -- sometimes it happens by opening what appears legit. But spammers of late don't even seem to try for clever, almost seem to go for the obviously-spam approach. Oh well, I enjoyed this lens.
  • ChapelHillFiddler Sep 10, 2010 @ 10:21 pm | delete
    HAH! Blessed.
  • IFTIKHAR SHAHEEN Jul 10, 2010 @ 7:32 am | delete
I have received dozens of such emails stating that a huge money comprising billions of dollars is lying in banks and the addressor wants some honest and trustworthy fellow to manage all those money affairs. I am really astonished thaty with such large amounts in their plates, they dont find any suitable person in their vicinity. LOL. These stupid fellows are only CHEATERS.

  • only1bub May 4, 2009 @ 11:13 pm | delete
I had someone e-mail me about a Craigslist post saying they couldn't pick it up and if I could mail it to their friend because they really wanted it and would pay me an extra few hundred dollars....ummm, well, my camera was only posted for $70... I wasn't born yesterday! I told them if they wanted it, get their friend to pick it up in person and pay cash...and I never heard from them again!

    Great page :)
  • mysticmama May 4, 2009 @ 11:15 am | delete

How funny! I loved it! You are so clever. I delete those things as fast as they come in and to think you had them saved for just the right moment. Amazing! I love your responses.

Keem, my friend...your check's in the mail. Half a billion dollars ain't no small potatoes. Or is that tomatoes? I forget. Thanks for giving the boot to the spammer. You should run as Squidoo's official Spam Buster.

Joan, these people must never sleep. We watched a "48 Hours" on tv a few months back, about a Nigerian guy who was actually tracked down by the investigative reporters and he was a key leader in this scam ring. They're organized! In the meantime, I guess we can keep on laughing, and resist the urge to reply!
  • Joan4 May 1, 2009 @ 7:56 pm | delete
I laughed out loud at your answer to sweet Vivian and kept laughing till the end! You do make such amazingly funny lenses! Thanks for the super great laugh! I liked the idea on the video. why can't we create a virus that would auto-answer all these folks? lol
  • squidom May 1, 2009 @ 8:53 am | delete
Very Funny Stuff! My hubby has actually gotten a few of these type of mails in the regular snail mail form, if you can believe it! They must have gotten our addy from one of the business directory websites. lol
  • MikeMoore May 1, 2009 @ 8:04 am | delete
Not lately. But I sure had a blast reading yours. Love this lens!
  • aj2008 May 1, 2009 @ 5:00 am | delete
Dear Vivian - sorry to hear that your bareness has stopped you having children. My bareness resulted in me having four!
    Love AJ

Oh Bonnie, ROFLMAO! Priceless lens and once I stop laughing, I'll Bless it!
  • chefkeem May 1, 2009 @ 12:25 am | delete
Sorry, I can't leave my footprint in this guest book. But I left one on the butt of a spammer! You'll get a hearty Squid Angel blessing if you send me my percentage of the total amount.
