We all know that Call Center is one of the fastest growing Industries in the World!
I will not be surprised, If there are tons of people who would like to get in this kind of job. It offers great benefits, good working environment and good pay. What else can you ask for?! But, the question is, do you have what it takes? You have to put in mind that based on statistics, here in the Philippines, out of 100 Applicants, only 3 up to 5 Applicants get the job. So, imagine yourself going into a battle, without knowing what will happen next. You have to prepare yourself, not just for the Interview, but, for the job itself, just in case, you get hired! Let's go back to the very basics.

What is a Call Center?
Call Center is a work group or an office where Agents answer Inbound or Outbound calls. Agents are required to undergo in several trainings to enhance, Communication Skills, Multi-tasking skills and Product knowledge, before being allowed to take-in calls. Agents are expected to follow certain Company's or Client's Rules and Regulations, to ensure Customer's satisfaction, and exceed the standards. Most Call Center's require their Agents to work in different shifting schedules, even on Holidays or Weekends.

1Inbound - Agents wait for an incoming call through an automated system, and answer Customer's concern and inquiries. Call Time Handling, Efficiency and Quality are constantly being monitored and scored.
Examples are the following:
Technical Support Agents -Troubleshoot and Resolve customer's Technical issues or concerns.
Customer Service -Answer Customer's complaints, inquiries or concerns.
Billing Agents -Answer billing related concerns or adjustments.
Directory Assistant -Answers Calls about Establishments or Person's Address, Hotline, Telephone Number and etc.
Fraud Bank Officer -Detects fraud and conducts minor on-line and off-line investigation, usually, bank or credit card issues. -
2Outbound -Agents are required to dial out a number, either manually or with the help of an automated system. Usually, to offer new products or services, or to ask customer's to pay debt or delinquent accounts.
Examples are the following:
Sales -Agents, either offer discount cards, credit cards, new or upgrade of service.
Credit and Collections -Agents are required to follow up or inform Customer's regarding account status and balance.
Skills Requirement for the Call Center Job
Now, that you have an idea what kind of job you will be going into. Let's now figure out how you can get the job that you want! Let's put in mind that this is not an easy job. So, if you really want it, then, you have to consider the following:

Excellent Communication Skills

You should not be just good in Communication Skills, but, rather, Excellent, in verbal or written English. So, If you are just learning how to construct few sentences in English, I would suggest that you take your time in studying and improving your Communication Skills. You will also need to improve your Listening, Hearing and Reasoning skills. Interviewers are trained and very skilled to filter applicants for the next part of the Interview. So, you can't just memorize your answer, you really have to be highly conversational, and well good in written English. -
Typing Skills

Call Center Agents are always in front of a Telephone and Computer. In order for you to even get the job, you should at least, have 35-45WPM with 100% Accuracy. -
Computer and Software Skills

In this kind of job, you are required to be in front of a computer 8 hours a day. You have to know how to operate a regular Windows or Mac based computers. Some Accounts also require their Agents to use spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel. And, E-mail Clients like Outlook 2010 and etc. They will not train you on how to use a computer; you should already know it, prior applying in a Call Center position. -
Customer Service Skills

If you haven't been into a job where you face irate customers or clients, then, prepare yourself. Because, you will be the front-liner of the Account. You should know how to pacify irate callers and give excellent customer service as well. Always put yourself in your customers' shoes, it really helps to understand, where they are coming from. -
Phone and Interview Skills

If you have no Call Center experience yet, it's better for you to get a partner and practice mock calls. During phone or actual interview, you might need to answer a mock call. Better to be prepared, so, don't go underdog. During Phone or Actual Interview, you will be asked different kinds of Interview questions, they will observe how well your communication, listening and reasoning skills. I suggest that you answer the questions as truthful as possible. After all, the main reason why you applied in their company, because, you want to become part of it. Remember, first impressions last.
