How to become a cheerleader
Introduction
Cheerleading is considered as a full sport event. But before you start buying your cheerleader clothes I really suggest you to think about of what cheerleading really is. At first, in these days cheerleading has become a quite competitive sport. Second, cheerleading requires a high demand of physical conditioning and skills.
First Scope: Why would you like to be a cheerleader?
Whether you want to practice this sport for professional purposes, or you just want to become more popular among your friends or just practicing a healthy sport. It is important to determine what the real purpose is of becoming a cheerleader.
Professional Cheerleading
Nowadays, Cheerleading has become a professional career. This can be seen during major events such as Football, Basketball among other popular sports. Nevertheless, achieving this career can be as difficult as getting an A during a math exam in MIT. Why is this? I mentioned earlier that cheerleading is a competitive sport. The real competition is actually getting the job. Can you imagine competing to get a spot in Dallas cowboys cheerleading squad?
Popularity
It is very common among all teenagers to believe that cheerleading could lead to popularity on schools. Well, this is the classical cliché among most girls right? So put yourself thinking a while. Does it really worth chasing this sport just for gaining some popularity? In my opinion, there are better things to do. For example, actually studying. My advice for all seekers of popularity in cheerleader activities is: Just do it for your health!
How to become a cheerleader
Once you've got cleared your mind and have decided why you would like to be a cheerleader, here are the steps to become a cheerleader.
- Improving Physical condition: How is your physical condition? To improve your physical condition you should do the following exercise: Find a gym and get on the treadmill and start jogging for about 30 minutes. You can do the same in a park.
- Improving Physical Strength: To improve your physical strength follow the next exercise: Find a punching bag and start hitting it for about 15 minutes with your arms, and 15 minutes with your legs. Why is this? Cheerleading requires strength but flexibility. Using gym weights really improve your strength but they also decrease your flexibility. Punching a bag greatly increases your musculature and improves your flexibility. Moreover, this exercise will help your to do better kicks which are widely using in cheerleading.
- Motivation: Cheerleading is about motivation; therefore a cheerleader must have the spirit of a winner. There is no real formula to get that cheerful spirit, but what you can do is getting some happy thoughts and to remember that life is wonderful. Give life and joyfulness to all your movements and let yourself having a big smile while you perform your routine.
- Clothing: As in any sport, practicing cheerleading requires comfortable clothes such as lycra wear for both: Torso and legs, in addition a pair of socks which could be ankle socks or alternatively girls knee high socks.
- Perseverance: Following all steps shown above seem to be easy, but it isn't. If you are brand new into cheerleading, believe me you will need guts to keep on until the end as you will find lot obstacles ahead. However, something I have learned during my life is that they are not real frontiers and everything could be possible, but for this you will need to be persistent and have real perseverance in what you do.
