Shiatsu is composed of "shi" meaning finger and "atsu" meaning pressure. Shiatsu massage therapy has its roots in oriental therapy which employs pressure applied with thumbs, fingers and palms to the same energy meridians as acupressure. It is more commonly known as Japanese physiotherapy.
The Shiatsu treatment and philosophy is similar to acupuncture in its usage of the meridians or energy channels and tsubo (pressure points) but with a difference. It does not use needles.

- Excellent lens on the various Massage Therapy techniques. Very helpful and useful links and resources( the videos were very educational)...in my state massage therapist are licensed and require a minimum of 600 hours of certified training.
The therapeuptic benefits of a massage is well documented and well worth the $40 per hour that a trained massuese charges.

- Not many people know this, but reputable and licensed massage therapists don't have anything to do with sensual massage. We are trying to get away from that "massage parlour" image. The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork requires therapists to take ethics classes to address this issue. If a client came to me and wanted a "sensual massage" I am required, by the licensing board, to send him/her packing and call the police if need be. Otherwise I'm a prostitute.
Although I'm sure sensual massage is great for lens traffic, it's not really in keeping with the message you're trying to convey. You need to put it in a separate lens.

Massage is not just for sensual pleasure but the ancient techniques of shiatsu and acupressure are used for healing and easing the pain. Massage also helps the blood circulation and relaxes, rejuvenates the muscles and tissues that are overworked, injured.

- Hubby and I love to massage each other to ease stress and sore muscles. The problem we have is the one massaging gets sore muscles from poor posture used to massage. We're holding a massage table like you've pictured in mind- just to use in the house for each other.
