How to Blog for a Living

The secret to making a living with a blog is simple: Ads and Products. That's right, you will be placing ads or products (or even better - both) in your blog!

The key however, is to always remember: your first goal is to provide good blog material, your second goal would be to have ads or links that relate to what you are talking about throughout your blog. Your ads will get readers curious and they will more than likely click on the ads to see what they are about. This is the secret to how to blog for a living!

Many bloggers use Google AdSense. While in my opinion Google AdSense is a great way to make money blogging, it certainly SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY METHOD you use in your blog. However, it is a nice addition to other methods you should use.

If you decide you want to use Google AdSense, you will want to blend it in with your blog. The links should look like normal links on your site with the same font, color, and background as the rest of your blog.

Another great idea is to promote your own products to your readers to make serious amounts of blogging cash. Not sure how to make your own product? How about if you take the archives of your best post and put them together to create an e book to sell?! Or, if you are new to blogging - as you go along in your blogging career, keep tabs on your most popular posts and remember the e-book idea for later - yeah!

Don't have your own products? Don't worry, you can find someone else's products to promote on your blog and get a nice commission when you make a sale. This is called affiliate marketing - and many bloggers do this! A great way to find affiliate programs is to go to the very bottom of some of your favorite product websites and see if they have a link that says - "affiliates". Here is where you can sign up for their affiliate program. If they do not have a program, it doesn't hurt to call and ask if they offer a commissions based program if you advertise their products on your blog!

Once you've got your advertisements and your products on your blog - now it's time to get the word out. If you've already got a good following, great! If not, you can certainly begin to build your fan base - an easy way of doing this is to write articles and submit them to online article sites. Your articles should be good informative articles similar to the information in your posts on your blog (they should not be about your blog). The key here is to include a link to your blog at the bottom of the article (some sites allow this in your last paragraph, some only allow links in your resource box at the end of your article - so be sure and check with each site!)

Now, articles are just one way to get readers to your site. You may have to do a little bit of research to learn more about the best ways to advertise and market your blog - just be sure and do it! Getting the word out is the most important step towards success in making money with your blog.
