Using A Solar Heat Panel At Night Or When It's Cloudy
When you build a solar heat panel, you can use its stored power any time of day
During times of the day when it's cloudy or if it's at night and your solar heat panel isn't producing energy, you might wonder how they will still work. But you're still able to pull power from the grid. When, during the heat of the day, the solar panels are producing lots of energy. If your house is not using all of that, the power is able to flow back out into the grid and that power can be used by anyone else who happens to need it who is connected to the grid. So weather should not be a major concern when you learn how to build a solar heat panel. When you know how to build a solar heat panel you can save a lot of the expense of having a professional builder make and install on your home. How To Build A Solar Heat Panel - Overview
This is just a sample of what you can do
First you need two bricks of 3 by 6 mono-crystalline solar cells. It will take 36 of these type solar cells wired in series to make a panel. Each cell can produce about 1/2 Volt. 36 in a series would give about 18 volts which would be good for charging 12 volt batteries.A solar heat panel is really just a shallow box. So you should start out by building yourself a shallow box, for the size that you need. Make the box very shallow so the sides wouldn't cover the solar cells when the sun hits it from the sides
Next cut 2 pieces of a masonite peg-board to fit inside of the wells. These pieces of peg-board will be the things that each sub-panel is built on.To protect the solar cells from the weather, the panel will have a plexiglas front.
Next put the cells on that grid pattern upside-down so you can solder them all together. All of the 18 cells on each half panel need to be soldered together in series, then both half panels need to be connected in series to get the desired voltage.
Use a low-Watt soldering iron and fine rosin-core solder. Next use a rosin pen on the solder points on the rear of the cells before soldering. Use a real light touch with the soldering iron. The cells are thin and delicate, you don't want to damage them. If you push too hard, you will break the cells.
Finally drill a hole in the back of the solar heat panel near the top for the wires to exit. Each solar heat panel in a solar power system needs a blocking diode in series with it to prevent the panel from discharging your batteries at night time or during cloudy weather. Then add a polarized two-pin plug to the end of the panel wires. You Are done and you will have built your first solar heat panel.
