Write Compelling Lens Content

Why would someone want to visit your lens? Ask yourself this question before you start building. There are endless niches out there and chances are if you are interested in something you're not alone. Write about what you like, what you know and what you're passionate about. The content will come easier and you'll have more keyword laden content out of the gate.

You have to give your readers something. You have to make them want to visit your lens. Once you've selected your topic add modules to your lens to give it more inter activity. Add polls to your lens. People love to take them and you and your readers get points when they take them. There are lenses out there that are nothing but polls. They're quite popular with lensmasters looking to boost their levels.

Have an SEO Blueprint Before you Start

Do you have an seo plan?SEO or search engine optimization is easy with squidoo as it does a lot of the work for you. That being said you should have a particular key phrase in mind when you start building a new lens. I like to create a short list of key phrases for a lens before I start building it. This way you can add them into your titles and pepper them through out your page to give it better keyword density.

Once you have your list stick to it. You want to keep your readers in mind and more importantly keep in mind how they're going to find you. Chances are they'll either use the search feature on Squidoo or they'll find you through Google. GOOGLE LOVES LENSES and it loves them because the Squidoo platform gives them specific content that is highly tagged. It knows what the lens is about and what to expect when you get there.

What are Squidoo tags?Tags are important. They differentiate your lens from others. It's important to add as many variations of your tags in the tags tab because everyone is different and will use different words to find you. For instance I write a lot about used cars. Some good tags to use in this instance would be used cars, used vehicles, used autos. I just said the same thing 3 times, however what I type into a search is different from what others would add. You want to cover your bases and this is a good way to do that.

How to give your lens a tune up?Once you've completed your lens and you've already published it you'll want to give it a health check. To do this you can use the Squidoo Lens Health Check utility. This is a great utility I found that will show you where your lens needs the most help. There's very high percentage of lenses on Squidoo that have not been fully optimized. This tool will analyze your lens, and let you know which bits you need to change. Use this tool to get the most bang for your buck with the search engines. It will help them better index you and in turn get you more readers.

Bonus Twitter Tip

To add another Twitter like button to all of your lenses at once paste the Tweet Button code into your default bio. It will get more people not only sharing your lensmaster page, but will also offer another Tweet Button to the rest of your lenses.
