About Solar Cells
One thing that many people ask about when it comes to electricity and energy is how solar energy actually works. We need to think of the sun as the most powerful power source that is available to us. However, not that many people are utilizing this.
The sun reaches the Earth and gives it light for at least 12 hours every day. You can easily harvest energy from the sun that you can use to provide power for your daily needs. It is wasting money when we do not use this resource since we tend to disregard it as a renewable, non polluting and cheap source of energy.

Why Solar Energy is a Good Alternative
Before you decide to use solar energy as your electricity source, you should find it necessary first to know its advantages as well as its disadvantages, and there are a few disadvantages. At least you should know how it works and how it can bring free electricity to your home.
All of us will surely agree that a big part of our monthly income goes to out electricity bills, and sometimes it is just so weakening. Good thing we already have a great alternative to cut it down, which is photovoltaic energy or more popularly known as solar energy. This kind of energy is free as it comes from the sun. You can gather as much energy as you want without getting billed. Solar energy can be best captured using photovoltaic or solar panels. Solar panels can be installed in places that are struck by the rays of the sun and can last for many years.
Solar energy is proven to be environment-friendly since it doesn't release any harmful chemicals like carbon or carbon dioxide, which is usually emitted by incinerators or fossil fuels. If we consider the use of solar energy, we would be able to reduce the amount of carbon as well as carbon dioxide residing in our environment, hopefully reduce the greenhouse effect, maybe even save us from extinction.
There are also some downsides to solar panels. One is cost. Solar panels are not at all cheap, and this is the reason why many people are hesitant to purchase this device. Solar panels do not last forever, but as technology improves, the replacement cost should come down also. Another disadvantage is that not all people can utilize solar panels as this will only function in specific places where the sun constantly visits. But just by looking at the downsides, the advantages weigh more.
If you are thinking twice on purchasing solar panels because they are expensive, there are still some alternatives that you might want to try like solar hot water heaters. The solar hot water heaters are a lot cheaper than solar panels. Their functions may be limited, but they can still help you save money on electricity bills and, in addition, you still will be able to contribute a lot to saving our environment.
The sun is an infinite source of solar energy and every human being must work hard to make the most of it, not just to cut down electricity bills, but most importantly, to restore our dying environment.

- These kits are cool - and possibly cheaper than the individual panels, although what I'd really like to find is a ghetto method of constructing cells themselves - this would really drive a solar revolution. I'm thinking this might need to be some part bio process using algae - but who knows...
