How To Improve Your Self Esteem?

Many people feel the need for self improvement, because they feel each morning when you get up to face a new day you have new challenges to face. For many, it seems as though there is always something or someone trying to put them down, and every day is not just a challenge but a chore. Rather than looking forward to the beginning of each new day they worry about what problems they will have to face.

Why is it that so many people begin each day in such a negative fashion? Others might start the day well, but then something happens to put them under stress and they find it hard to cope. If that is you what you must keep in mind is that there is no place on this earth where you will not have to deal with stress, and it is far better to learn how to cope with stress than to dread the beginning of each day.

Improve Your Self Esteem By Facing Challenges

Challenges are there to be faced; to be met with anticipation not with dread. There are effective ways to handle stress without letting it affect your self esteem.

Problems can be tackled with confidence, particularly if you make the decision to improve yourself and build up your self-esteem.

Here are four steps you can take towards achieving that, and you can decide yourself whether to focus on one of these each day or weekly.

Step 1: Set Goals And Make Plans

Life can be difficult when not approached in a systematic manner; you therefore have to set yourself some goals. Without also you will be approaching life in a haphazard fashion, without a clear sense of direction, and it therefore should come as no surprise to you when things go wrong. That is when people feel that they have let themselves down, lose their self-esteem and feel a sense of failure.

If you set yourself some goals you will have a better purpose in your life, and will have taken your first step towards self-improvement. These goals need not to be too specific north to general. A high school student for example can set his or her goal as obtaining a university degree. They can then plan towards this by getting a part-time or summer job to help save for the college fees -- in this way they have set a goal, formulated a plan towards achieving that goal and in so doing have considerably improved their self esteem.

Step 2: Understand Your Values

Everybody needs values in the lives. Part of self improvement involves understanding your values and living your life according to them. Good values for you to possess include honesty, integrity and faithfulness. I am sure that you can think of many more, but these are the first that come to mind. If you already live your life according to these values then you should have little need to improve your self esteem or true even have to consider embarking upon a self-improvement course. If you do not include these values as part of your life, then you half a fair bit of work to do over the next seven days.

Who do you admire? No matter who it is... whether it be a film star, a sporting superstar or some other hero, you will find that person not to be perfect. So why should you have to be? Money and fame are not the most important thing in a person's life. Important things are freedom helping others, volunteering to help the needy and many, many more qualities that you might already have.

So take a close look at yourself, and look for the qualities within you that you can be proud off and decided then whether you should really have a low opinion of yourself and whether or not a self-improvement course is really necessary. If you already possess the values which you aspire to attain what you should be considering is why you have not recognized them until now.

Step 3: Be Proud of Yourself

Many people feel that they have achieved nothing in life until they have some accomplishments of which they can be proud. If you are suffering from low self esteem and feel the need to continue with a self-improvement course, then first find a pen and a piece of paper. No find somewhere quiet where you can sit and think, and then write down everything that you feel you can be proud of.

For example, have children who have achieved something in their lives and for whom you can be proud? Have you achieved promotion at work, have you gained academic qualifications? These are all worthy things to have achieved. Even better however, have you helped other people who have been in trouble or have you given advice to others that has helped them to overcome a problem of their own?

Each of these is also something of which you should be proud. If you have achieved even one of these accomplishments you have very good reason for which to have a very high esteem of yourself.

Step 4: Relax To Achive High Self Esteem

People who feel stressed, full of tension and who have low esteem for themselves should find a means of relaxation. It is important to relax properly, and even sleep well at night, in order to feel good about yourself. Yoga is an excellent means of relaxation and is well-known to help your well-being and the way you feel about yourself. There are other ways to achieve proper relaxation, and without it you will be unable to completely remove the tension within your body, that feeling of stress with which you are so familiar and the need to improve your self-esteem.

It is possible to add another four headings or means of self-improvement and achieving a high self-esteem of yourself. However, if you focus on these four, then you should find very quickly that you will be leaving your house in the morning with your head held high and looking forward to the day. You will feel confident in yourself and your new abilities to face all that life can throw at you.
