How to Care for Skin Before Applying Makeup

Ranked #12,346 in Fashion & Beauty, #204,600 overall

Skin Care is Important

Before applying makeup, it is important to care for your skin properly and keep it healthy. It is important to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise. Try to avoid a lot of stress and extreme weather conditions.

Use protection from the sun. You can also get a SPF makeup foundation to protect your skin from the sun. Soap also tends to dry out your skin.

Try to stay hydrated. If you take care of your skin now, it will look healthier when you are older. Here are some tips on caring for your skin before applying makeup.

Use a Cleanser

Use a cream cleanser with a moistened cotton pad. Try to apply the cleanser in an upward motion. You should be able to see the dirt on the cotton pad. If it gets too dirty, use a new pad.

Use a Moisturizer

Use a moisturizer to help protect the skin. It will also create a barrier between your skin and the makeup. You can also find SPF moisturizes as well. Try to avoid the oily spots on your face. Only use the moisturizer on the dryer spots of your face.

Drink Water

Drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin, about 6-8 glasses a day. You do not want to look older, as dehydrated skin looks saggy and wrinkled. When you take a break during the day, get into the habit of drinking water. It will make you feel better too.

Avoid Salt

Try to avoid a lot of salt and alcohol to keep the skin from becoming dehydrated. A lot of salt is also bad for you and can make you retain water weight. Most foods already have enough salt in them, so extra salt is not usually required.

Use Noxzema

Try to wash your face with Noxzema instead of soap. Soap dries out the skin. You should not use soap even if you have oily skin. I have used Noxzema for years. I do notice a difference. If I use soap my skin feels dry.

Give Yourself a Facial

Try to give yourself a facial once a month to deep cleanse your skin and remove environmental impurities. You will feel so much better after a facial! There are many recipes for facials. Try a oatmeal facial. Put some rolled oats into a blender and grind it until it has a texture similar to flour. Mix some with a little water to make a paste. Apply to your face and massage it into your skin. Rinse. You can use moisturizer afterwards if you wish.

I'm glad to see staying hydrated is on your list. The plumper the skin is, the better your makeup looks.
