Guitar

A lot of issues should be considered by any music lover before he or she wants to buy a good quality guitar. Here, we shall discuss some common facts that should be kept in mind before buying a guitar.

Stuff for guitar:

Music you prefer

* If you prefer rock and roll, you should never buy a classical guitar. It is better to start with a Spanish guitar and then switch to electric.
* If you want to learn guitar only for your own pleasure, get an acoustic one.
* While playing for church or other occasions which prefer soft music, get an acoustic electric guitar.
* Electric guitars are easier to learn, but amplifiers are also needed for magnifying the sound.

Budget is important

* If you are a beginner, don't make the mistake of getting a good guitar once you get good in playing it. Never buy a cheap guitar, always start with a good one.
* Cheap guitars are hard to play, even harder to tune and the worst fact is, the music does not sound good.
* Very soon, the learner gets disgusted with the quality and quits playing.
* So, always get a good guitar for at least 300$ and enjoy learning and playing.

Checking the sound

* Always try to go with an expert who knows guitars and can check whether the one you are about to buy sounds good.
* While testing, either do it outdoors or do it in a large room, where the sound can properly circulate.
* Overall sound quality depends on the timbers, proper balance of treble and bass, sound clarity of each individual chord, rate by which the tone decays once a string is struck and finally loudness of the tones.

Manufacture and present condition

* While buying a new guitar, always carefully examine the total structure.
* Gently tap on the surface to see whether there are any cracks on the body.
* There must not be any depressions or swellings on the surface.
* If you are buying an old one, apart from all the above, check the tuning machines, whether they properly tunes or if there is any rusting or worn gears.

Stay aware of the common mistakes

* Never buy a guitar based on the brand names. It is not always essential that a good brand produces good quality guitar.
* Looks are always not important. Playing the music is more important than the style factor. Your first preference should be sound quality and structure. Then comes the looks.
* Always choose a professional music store. There, the storekeeper will also have good knowledge in music and will definitely help you get your perfect gear. And if a store does not keep Martin, Gibson and Fender, it is better to avoid it.
* Buying expensive guitars is not always important. Try them out for sound and examine what a real guitar feels like. Then go for something at your range, and you will have a good idea while comparing other guitars.

Conclusion:

The guitar you buy once will be there with you for the rest of your life. So, buy a good one and start learning. And always remember to properly maintain your gear.

Comments:

  • There is actually no reason why a rock guitarist should not start with a Classical guitar. Starting this way is easier on the fingers and a Classical guitarist can play anything. This is not true of those that only learn to play rock!
  • There's nothing quite like jamming out on an acoustic guitar :)
  • I play three accoustic guitars, been playing 15 years now!
  • Thanks for the tips! Will keep those in mind when choosing a guitar for me! :)
  • These are good pointers. I agree about quality. Many people choose their guitar based on brand or looks and this is a mistake. Thanks for sharing.
