Don't be miserable all night
Deciding what to be seems like an easy decision but it really requires a little bit of thought. Do you know what those stilettos will do to your feet by the end of the night? Have you figured out how you are going to pee wearing that two person donkey outfit? It's ok...don't panic. I have a few tips to help you so that you aren't stuck with a bad costume the entire night.

Put some thought into it
The last thing you want to do on Halloween is be uncomfortable. Think about what you are going to be doing that night. If you are going to a party, make sure you wear an outfit that breaths...you don't want to be sweating off the make-up that took three hours to get perfect. If you are going to an outside party, make sure you wear layers. It gets pretty chilly in my hometown in October and the last thing I want to be outside in is a skimpy costume. If you want to be sexy without freezing, choose something that has stockings or a cape to cover your shoulders. Little Red Riding Hood would be good. You could wear a thick velvet cape with a hood. You could also carry a basket around with Hot Hands in it...how clever.
The same thing applies to moms who have to walk around their children. Don't wear heels...you will regret it! Wear flats with the kids. You can always change your shoes to go to your adult party later.
Watch your sleeves. If you are a vampire and you have long, flowing sleeves, you will regret it. They hang into all the dips and will get in the way.
If you have to change your hair, I would wear a wig. They can get scratchy but the alternative is spray on hair color. Not only do they stink, they will bleed on furniture and head rests and they take forever to wash out. I don't recommend them at all.

Little Red Riding Hood Costume Accessory
Did you know...
People spend over $2.5 billion during Halloween on candies, costumes, decorations and parties.
Planning ahead is crucial
For guys, I know you think the big, scary masks are awesome but could you stand to wear one for more than five minutes? Try wearing it at the store the entire time your wife is trying on costumes. If you can't do that, don't buy it.Couples costumes are super adorable. Don't get one that requires you and your partner to be glued to the hip all night...I know you love them but space is a blessing.
Don't wear things that do not fit you. If it is too big, you will be pulling at it all night. The same goes for things that are too tight. I learned my lesson last year with a corset.. I had a teeny waist but I was in pain later.
Watch out for outfits that are large...can you maneuver your way through a crowd with those fairy wings? Can you even get in the car? If not, don't buy it.
Homemade costumes are great. They are unique and can be a big money saver. Just watch out for things that are too busy. If you have too many things sewn on, they will fall off. Also, do not go out of the house wrapped in toilet paper. What would you do if it rained?
So many of these tips are common sense. You just have to stop and really think about your costume choices.

Amazon Price: $11.66 (as of 12/26/2009)![]()
This ghostly guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to create a Halloween that's both chilling and thrilling for the whole family. The first of three helpful sections, Dandy Disguises, explains the construction of basic costume elements, such as hats, capes, and masks to turn kids into a variety of creatures, from Dracula to caped superheroes. Best of all, every costume can be made in three steps or less with no sewing required-just a glue gun is needed to complete each look. The second section, Ghoulish Gatherings, suggests creative ideas to transform a happy home into the spookiest house on the block. Festive party games, classic magic tricks, party recipes, and pumpkin carving patterns are included, as well as a final section of patterns and construction tips for making haunted noisemakers, giant door decorations, and garden tombstones. A colorful jack-o-lantern photo gallery with Halloween history and trivia accompanies hilarious information about some very wacky Halloween traditions.
What is the worst costume you ever wore?
This was my costume last year. I could not breath and I was in serious pain...at least I looked cute...right?
So I want to know what is the most uncomfortable costume you ever wore? Let's make this our 'do not wear' list. You can even vote up the worst. Have fun with it.

Kids are another thing entirely
Children can be a blessing and a curse at Halloween. Those crowded stores are awful in October. It can be tempting to ask your child what they want to be and go get the costume yourself...don't do that. They need to try the outfit on. If it doesn't fit, you will have a hard time exchanging it and you risk the right size being sold out.The good news is that kids often times know exactly what they want to be so that part is usually quick. Remember, though, that you have final say. Make sure your child will be comfortable over cute. Baby costumes are amazing. There are so many choices. That monkey suit may be adorable but will your baby get too hot?
Make your little princess wear leggings under her dress and maybe keep a long sleeve shirt on hand if it gets chilly later. Don't let them wear dressy shoes either. Kids need to wear tennis shoes whether they match or not. Do you want to be stuck carrying a three year old and her candy bag from house to house?
Keep accessories in mind here too. Fairy wands and swords really pull a costume together but some kids decide they don't want to carry them after about 10 minutes so make sure you tell them, "You want it, you carry it".
Don't put wings on your daughter until after you reach your destination. They will not fit in a car seat. Also, don't let little boys wear masks. They obstruct their vision and get hot. Opt for make-up and you can get the same affect.
Don't buy those blood capsules for your little vampire. Really? How are they supposed to eat ot even talk? I just don't understand those things to begin with.
*Don't forget safety. Make sure your child has a low stick around his neck or reflective tape on his back. You can never be too careful on the streets at night.*
Have fun! That's what Halloween is for. Take a few preventative steps early and you and your family will have a great night..Happy Halloween!
