It is Time To Clean The Old Teapot!

Cleaning the teapot is a job that definitely does not get done as often as it should....

Well it's time to stop putting this task off, it is time to give your teapot the respect that it deserves. Your teapot is a dependable, and indispensable, part of your household and it deserves a little more attention than it currently receives.

It is time to give your teapot the deep cleaning that it so desperately needs. No more neglecting that precious piece of pottery any longer. Today is the day that you clean the old tea pot.

Of course there is a right way and a wrong way to clean a teapot....

Tea is one of the healthier beverages that we can consume but unfortunately it is also a beverage that stains dishware. Over time tea can cause a nasty build up to form within the cups and teapots that it is steeped in.

Cleaning the cups that we use for tea is usually not much of a problem, because we tend to wash these after each use, but for some reason we have a tendency to only clean the teapot occasionally. This makes cleaning the teapot definitely much more of a chore than it would otherwise be. I am as guilty of this as the next person. It is usually only when I notice little flakes of brownish material floating conspicuously within my freshly poured cup of tea that I get the more than obvious hint that it is time to clean my teapot.

There are of course a right way and a wrong way to clean a teapot though and it is important to know which is which. Harsh or toxic chemicals are definitely the wrong items to use to clean your teapot. So is giving it to the dog to lick clean or handing it over to the hubby to chisel the build up out. These methods can be used but they just aren't the correct way to clean a teapot.

The safer, and more natural method, of shining up that old teapot are the correct way to clean it. Using people safe cleaning products such as vinegar, and that most reliable of all household items, baking soda.

Baking Soda, vinegar, or grandma's denture tablets....

There are a number of ways that vinegar or baking soda can be used to clean a teapot. These very environmentally friendly yet absolutely fantastic cleaning compounds are a teapots best friend. It is just a matter of examining the problem to determine exactly how dramatic of a cleaning job is actually at hand. Once that is known then it is easy to decide on a method that is right for the current cleaning job.

If the teapot is not too crusty then it can be cleaned by simply putting in one cup of vinegar and then filling the remainder of the pot with boiling water. Leaving the pot sit in this solution overnight generally melts most of the gunk right out of it. Another means of cleaning the buildup is to put 4 tablespoons of baking soda in the teapot, filling the remainder of the pot with boiling water, and once again letting the solution sit over night.

For a super corroded teapot pop one of Grandma's denture tablets into it. These work amazingly well to clean a teapot. Simply fill your teapot with boiling water, pop in the tablet, and allow the denture tab to do its job. It usually cleans the pot pretty well in about a four to six hour period. Leaving it to sit in overnight though is pretty much a guarantee of a sparkling clean teapot come morning.

How Often Do You Clean A Teapot?

To keep on top of your teapot so it doesn't get into the type of predicament that my poor old teapot gets into. Try to soak your teapot overnight at least once every two weeks. Use the mixture of boiling water, vinegar, and baking soda to keep your teapot fresh and clean.

For an absolute worst case scenario, which would be similar to my poor old teapot, one should immerse the scaly beast in an extra large pot of vinegar water. With teapot within it, place the pot onto the stove, and bring the liquid to just under a boil. Shut off the heat and leave your teapot to soak in the solution overnight. Wash the teapot thoroughly the following day to remove any leftover residue.

Returning to say that a clean teapot is a blessed teapot! Its the little things that had special to our live...I have to go put on some tea now and have a biscuit...fancy talk for a cookie. My grandma used to say biscuit but she wan't fancy but maybe because she learned that word in place of the Finnish word. Boiling water, vinegar and baking soda are the ticket to a fresh clean teapot...thought I'd write it down, so I remember. Now that is very economical and safe for us and the environment...and we get a great cup of tea in the end!

Excellent information. We rarely use a teapot these days, but I remember when they used to get really stained, and my Mum used to use vinegar to clean ours. Useful guide, blessed.

So, Grandma's denture tablets to the rescue when things are at their worst. I love to use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning and especially on something like a teapot, one just doesn't want to use anything toxic on them. Well done, according to your custom and I have to mention that you have found some gorgeous teapots that we can all take home with us to practice cleaning them the proper way!

This is such a useful tip to clean to teapot, often scrubbing with soap does not help cleaning. Vinegar, no doubt is more effective.

I actually collect teapots so I tend to rotate them enough that they don't get yucky but the vinegar trick really does work. I enjoyed your lens.
