It's Time To Clean The Old Teapot!

You know that you don't do it as often as you should - it is a job that just seems to get set to the side time and time again.........

Well it's time to stop putting this task off, it is definitely time to clean the teapot and there are no longer any ifs, ands, or buts about it!

Your teapot is dependable and indispensable yet just doesn't seem to get the respect that it truly deserves. Despite the old teapot getting used time and time again it just somehow never manages to get the deep cleaning that it should. Instead it just gets pushed to the side till it is needed once again.

Well no more neglecting that precious piece of pottery. Today is the day that you clean the tea pot..........

There Is A Right Way And A Wrong Way To Clean A Teapot

Tea is one of the healthier beverages that we can consume but unfortunately it is also a beverage that stains dishware. Over time it can cause a nasty build up to form within the cups and teapots that it is steeped in.

There is usually not much of a problem when it comes to cleaning the cups that we use for tea, because we tend to wash these after each use, but for some reason we have a tendency to only clean the teapot occasionally. This makes cleaning the teapot definitely much more of a chore than it would otherwise be. I am definitely as guilty of this as the next person. It is usually only when I notice little flakes of brownish material floating conspicuously within my nice hot cup of tea that I get the more than obvious hint that it is time to clean my teapot.

There are of course right and wrong ways to clean a teapot. Harsh chemicals are definitely the wrong way of attempting to clean that scaly monster. So is giving it to the dog to lick clean or handing it over to the hubby to chisel the build up out. These methods can be used but they just aren't the proper way of cleaning a teapot.

The safer, more natural methods of shining up that old teapot are vinegar, and that most reliable of all household items baking soda.

Baking Soda, Vinegar Or Grandma's Denture Tablets..........

There are a number of ways that vinegar or baking soda can be used to clean a teapot. These very environmentally friendly yet absolutely fantastic cleaning compounds are a teapots best friend. It is just a matter of examining the problem to determine exactly how dramatic of a cleaning job is actually at hand. Once that is known then it is easy to decide on a method that is right for the current cleaning job.

If the teapot is not too crusty then it can be cleaned by simply putting in one cup of vinegar and then filling the remainder of the pot with boiling water. Leaving the pot sit in this solution overnight generally melts most of the gunk right out of it. Another means of cleaning the buildup is to put 4 tablespoons of baking soda in the teapot, filling the remainder of the pot with boiling water, and once again letting the solution sit over night.

For a super corroded teapot one of Grandma's denture tablets works amazingly well, simply fill the pot with hot water, pop in the tablet, and allow the denture tab to do its job. It usually cleans the pot pretty well in about a four to six hour period. Leaving it to sit in overnight though is pretty much a guarantee of a sparkling clean teapot come morning.

How Often Do You Clean A Teapot?

For an absolute worst case scenario, which would be similar to my poor old teapot, one should immerse the monster in an extra large pot of vinegar water. With teapot within it, place the pot onto the stove. Bring the liquid to a boil and then leave it to sit in the solution overnight. Wash the teapot thoroughly the following day to remove any leftover residue.

To keep on top of your teapot so it doesn't get into this type of predicament in the future. Try to soak your teapot overnight at least every second week in boiling water and either vinegar or baking soda. Both work equally as well.
