Imagine how wonderful it would be if you knew how to control your dreams. You could visit distant lands, make love to the person of your dreams- literally, and even fly! The possibilities are endless!

Controlling Your Dreams Through Lucid Dreaming

In order to control your dreams, you must first realize that you are dreaming. When you realize that you are indeed in a dream world, you begin a process called lucid dreaming.

In my opinion, there is no better feeling than becoming lucid inside of a dream. My body becomes filled with excitement, and I see my dream in perfect clarity! The color's become very bright, and the sounds become very crisp. This all happens in what seems like an instant!

Preparing For A Life Of Lucid Dreaming

Just like anything worth having, it takes a little bit of work to become a lucid dreamer. Sometimes, people give up after a few nights of not having a lucid dream. They begin to question the truth about the whole thing, and automatically become skeptical.

In my case, it took well over two months of practicing before I had my first lucid dream. I wanted to give up a few times, but I was just so convinced that it was possible, because of the large amount of people that have confirmed that they had lucid dreams!

If you are interested in starting a journey towards lucidity, you must be prepared for a long ride! Some people become lucid much quicker than others, and this variation can not be explained scientifically.

If you think that the prize is worth putting forth the effort, welcome to a new world! This world is full of some of the friendliest people that you will ever meet, and we are all more than willing to help you when we can!

History Of Lucid Dreaming

I know... You probably didn't come to this lens for a history lesson, so I will keep this quick.

The most important man in the world of Lucid Dreaming is Dr. Stephen LaBerge. While studying lucid dreaming at Standford University, he discovered a way that he can enter a dream world whenever he wanted.

This was a major development, because up until this point, the whole idea of lucid dreaming was considered ridiculous by a lot of people.

To prove his methods worked, he began to teach the same methods he used to other people. They too became lucid!

Books By Dr. Stephen LaBerge

Dr. LaBerge has written a few books on lucid dreaming. I highly recommend that you take a look at a couple of them. The first one that I have listed is the newest one, but his other books are just as good and informative, regardless of their age.

The First Step To Lucid Dreaming

Before you can begin to have lucid dreams, you must first be able to remember your dreams.

Most people never remember their dreams. In fact, there are some people who believe that they never dream! This is completely false! Everyone dreams! It naturally happens in the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep. Most people just don't remember ever having a dream at all.

Remembering your dreams is the most difficult part of becoming lucid. There is a way that you can train yourself to remember your dreams though, through the use of a dream journal.

Check out my Lucid Dreaming Blog to learn more about keeping a dream journal. At my blog, you will find links to free dream journal software, as well as ways to train yourself to write in it.

My Dream Journal

If you would rather have a have an actual journal that you can hold, this is the exact journal that I use. Your journal should be special, and I really like the design of this journal, so I bought it.

What Happens After You Can Remember Your Dreams?

After you become proficient at remembering your dreams, you are very close to becoming lucid.

So, about half of your dream journal is full, and you are ready to step into lucidity! This is the easiest part of the whole process!

There are quite a few different lucid dreaming induction methods (ways to become lucid), but I will give you the easiest (in my opinion) for beginners.

Mnemonic Induced Lucid Dream, or MILD dreaming basically involves you telling yourself that you are going to have a lucid dream. To do this, set an alarm clock for about five to six hours after you fall asleep. When you wake up, if you were dreaming, write your dream down in your journal. Before going back to sleep, say to yourself, over-and-over, "I am going to have a lucid dream".

While doing this, make sure that you focus on just those words. Do not let anything break your concentration. Sooner or later, you will slowly drift into a dream state. Once you are in a dream state, do a reality check.

A reality check is nothing more than your way of confirming that you are dreaming. If you have kept a good dream journal, you may notice something that you see a lot in your other dreams. The reality check that I use though, is to look at my hands. In all of my dreams (and a lot of my friend's dreams), when I look at my hands, they look much different. Sometimes they have six fingers, sometimes they are really big, or even really small.

After you complete your reality check, you will be filled with the most amazing sensation that you have ever experienced. You will realize that you are dreaming, and that you can now control your dreams!

Trouble Keeping Focus?

For some people, it is very hard to stay focused while attempting MILD. I had this problem, so I bought a sleep mask. My sleep mask stops me from any distractions, such as light.

Here are some sleep mask's from amazon, if you are interested in one.

I hope that you have been both educated and inspired by this lens. There is so much more to the world of lucid dreaming that I have not touched on. If you really want to learn more, take a look at one of those books from Dr. Stephen LaBerge that I mentioned earlier.

I have also just started a Lucid Dreaming Blog. There is not much on there yet, but it has been updated daily since I started it. I plan to continue to regularly update it, so bookmark it, and come back to learn more!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and happy dreaming!

I have somewhat lucid dreams all the time! It just happened all by itself, my sister just said something about it many many years ago, and then one night I just realized that I was dreaming. But I can't totally control what happens even when I realize that I am dreaming. Would be nice to get there! Sometimes I have bad dreams, where I feel very anxious and scared, or am trying to run away from something, and when I realize that I'm dreaming I try to wake myself up, but this is very hard to do. It has even happened that I dreamed I woke myself up, but then I was just in a different dream, kinda like the Thriller video. Anyhow. It is nice to know that I could learn to really totally control my dreams! Something kind of cool: I have found that if I am running away from something scary in my dream, I can make myself move toward it instead, and then it can't harm me in my dream, it usually just kind of dissolves or changes or so. Anyhow. Enough rambling for now. Neat lens!
