The Set Up In How To Crochet

The Basics In How To Crochet

Getting you starting in how to crochet.

Now that you have your set up and supplies, it is time to start crocheting. Basically crocheting is making fabric out of thread or yarn. To do this, you take a hook and yarn. Hold the hook like a pencil between your index finger and thumb. (there is another method of holding it like a knife, but the pencil method is my preference) Now you need to make a loop in the hook making a slip knot. Insert the hook into the loop you made and scoop up the yarn in the back of the loop. Pull this yarn through the back of the loop. After that, pull the tail string of the yarn to tighten the loop around the hook. Now take hold of the end of the slip knot between your middle finger and thumb. Using the middle finger of your other hand, (the one not holding the hook), wrap the yarn around the hook shaft above your knot. Use the hook to bring the yarn through the loop. With this, you have just made your first chain.
