Tips to Stop Panic Attacks

Listen to your body
When we feel anxious, it's usually because of an external factor - you may be in a stressful relationship or have pressures at work or money worries. When it gets too much to bear, our anxieties can sometimes spiral out of control.

You need to listen to your body so that you can identify and address the problem next time these feelings start to encroach on you. Do you really listen to your body and what it needs? Allow it that time.

Don't bottle up your emotions
Find someone to share your problems with and confide in them. It may be a friend, a member of the family or a professional therapist You'll be surprised what a weight off your mind this can provide.

Be Objective
When you next feel anxious, imagine looking down on yourself and advising yourself what you should do next. Be your own councillor. Works wonders!

Listen to some music
Or find something to do that you enjoy or a task that brings you pleasure. It's a great way to distract yourself away from any impending panic attack. Then just let it slowly subside.

Learn a relaxation technique
First, find a quiet, dark area where you won't be disturbed. Then lie down and close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply from your abdomen. Concentrate on relaxing each part of your body in turn and imagine them melting, bit by bit, from your feet to your head. Think of warmth and heaviness. After 20 minutes take time to do some deep breaths and stretch.

Exercise
Exercise releases endorphins, which in turn relieves stress. Go for a brisk walk, a bike ride or a swim. It will also distract you away from your symptoms and can refresh your mind and really give it another focus apart from yourself. This is a marvellous way of turning your thoughts more outward instead of inward.

Forget Quick Fixes
In spite of what many will tell you, there is no 'magic pill' that is going to cure you. Medications may be OK in the short term, but they merely mask the real underlying causes. In some cases they can actually make things even worse.

Don't fight it, Face your fears
Start to move towards your fears, as you may now know avoidance just does not work. By avoiding your problems you are effectively telling your body that you are in danger. This then becomes a learnt behaviour and forms your new habit of running away from how you are feeling.

Get some sleep
Your stress levels rise dramatically when you are tired. Make sure get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. If you exercise and eat well, and read a book before turning out the light, you will stand a much better chance of a good night's rest. Which brings me on to my next point:

Eat yourself Well
Avoid caffeine, alcohol and refined sugars all of which can increase your levels of anxiety. Your diet can have a MAJOR impact on your mental health. Instead, eat plenty of vegetables and fresh fruit.

A while ago I suffered with heart palpitations and skipped heartbeats. I became so obsessed by my heartbeats that I wasn't able to function.

What the Panic Away Treatment did for me

When I purchased this course, I was suffering terribly from heart palpitations. I thought I was going crazy, always trying to talk myself out of the condition. Telling myself that I was being stupid. But would my own body listen to me? No way!

    Good stuff Beth. I too research remedies for panic attacks, stress, anxiety, phobias, depression and the pursuit of happiness, and the Panic Away and the Linden method are two programs that seem to be among the most popular people who suffer with these conditions use to overcome.
