You Can Learn How to Cut Cards with One Hand

Did you know you can cut cards while using only one hand?

You can do this of course, depending on the size of your hand as well as the size of cards.

However, for this article we will be using my hand, which is rather normal in size for a woman's hand and a regular size deck of playing cards.

My father loved to play cards, he began teaching us how to play cards while we were young children. Since there were 4 of us, we always had a partner while playing spades, one of our most favorite childhood games.

He also taught us how to cut cards while using one hand; however of the four of us, 2 boys and 2 girls I was the only one who was able to learn how to do it properly and very well, I might add.

The method that I am teaching to you looks as if you are twirling half of the deck to cut the deck.

Now I will tell you how to cut cards with one hand!

A special thank you to chelle for photo use.

How to Cut Cards with One Hand - Step 1

Use your dominant hand whether it is the left or right. I use my right. Take the cards from their box and hold them in your hand.

Palm up.

Your thumb will be on one side, your index finger will be on the same side as your thumb. Your other three fingers will be on the other side of the deck.

Therefore, one end of the deck of cards will be sitting between your index and middle finger. Or, I should say, you will be holding the deck of cards between your index finger and your middle finger.

Hold the cards firmly yet not to tightly.

How to Cut Cards with One Hand - Step 3

Use your index finger to act as an anchor and a pivot point as it is in place, do not move your index finger at this time.

While you are moving the top cards towards the index finger you will be using your index finger to hold the original stack of cards as well as the cards you are moving with your thumb.

How to Cut Cards with One Hand - Step 4

Move your index finger under the cards you are holding in your hand while bending your index finger at the first knuckle. You will be sliding your bended index finger under the original stack of cards in your hand. The other three fingers on the other side you should bend towards the cards in order to hold onto the original stack, since the index finger is now under it.
