Anxiety Help
This lens deals with some practical ways for a God-believing person to deal with the emotion of anxiety. We are not discussing here the more severe conditions that should be treated with the help of a professional counselor or MD. The kind of suggestions I offer come from my ministry as a pastor of a Christian church. Over my 39 years of ministry I have had to help many people through many rough times and I have had to deal with my own volume of personal anxiety as well. I put this lens together hoping that it will be a help to you.

Anxiety is a multisystem response to a perceived threat or danger. It reflects a combination of biochemical changes in the body, the patient's personal history and memory, and the social situation. As far as we know, anxiety is a uniquely human experience. Other animals clearly know fear, but human anxiety involves an ability, to use memory and imagination to move backward and forward in time, that animals do not appear to have. The anxiety that occurs in post-traumatic syndromes indicates that human memory is a much more complicated mental function than animal memory. Moreover, a large portion of human anxiety is produced by anticipation of future events. Without a sense of personal continuity over time, people would not have the "raw materials" of anxiety. ...

When the wrong thoughts come into our minds that are negative and untrue, we are to remove them and take them captive by not allowing them to run free but restrain and remove them by not entertaining or dwelling on them. Exercise Two: You MUST stay positive!
Force Yourself To Think Positive
Forward Your thoughts to an absolute truth. The thinking that is destroying you is not true. You are going to make it through this! That is the truth. Redirecting your thoughts means to change your thoughts that are not true and negative to thoughts that are true and positive.
One of the best ways I have ever seen this displayed is in Phillipians 4:8"

Make Positive Thought You Habit
Let your mind experience renewal. When we force ourselves to think beyond the false negatives, those thoughts which try to destroy us, it clears out the old way of thinking and replaces it with the new.
Remember, you are more than an overcomer! Any thought that says otherwise is untrue for you! With any habit we want to change we not only need to stop the cycle but replace the bad habit with a good habit. Continual redirection of your negative, anxiety filled, thoughts make a new pattern. New patterns continued make habits. Habits guide your life. Anxiety may be present but now you and God are in control! Think about it!
Rom 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (NIV translation)

Exercise Four: Redefine your Priorities:
One other issue that causes anxiety is feeling overwhelmed by too many tasks or thoughts at once. To help alleviate this problem; you can sit down and write it out
1. What's a real problem and what's not.
2. Sort out your concerns and prioritize them.
3. Weed out what's not important by either delegating it or putting it on a separate list to do.
4. Narrow down your list and focus on one task at a time and do the most important ones first.. Focusing on one task at a time will help you to not feel so overwhelmed and at the same time will organize your thoughts as well as your tasks into a doable plan and help you regain your ability to cope.
5. Carry it Out: Now that you know that these thoughts are not good and do harm you need to follow through with what you know is true and take them captive, remove them, don't entertain them and replace them with good and pure thoughts. Changing our behavior takes practice and as you work on this faithfully you will have a new habit and renewed mind before you know it. (James 1:25)
If you do these things with prayer and by faith God will provide His strength in the midst of your weakness and give you the power to overcome for our victory comes from Him.

Wonderful lens. I used to have anxiety and it really have a very big impact in my life in a negative way. Thank god I never stop fighting and always trying to figure out how to battle it. I believe a lot of people are having this problems but most them just can get out of it. Medicine would only give you temporary relief but it is something inside you that will release you from all the pain. By the way congratulation for being the new Giant squid. Well done.
