How To Draw A Baby Dragon

Ranked #3,301 in Arts & Design, #48,739 overall

Draw a baby dragon with this easy to follow step-by-step tutorial.

This tutorial will show you step-by-step how to draw a picture of a baby dragon. We will be using simple shapes so even the most novice artist will be able to achieve expert results.

You should be able to follow this tutorial pretty easily using only the pictures provided. Although written account is given of each step, hopefully you wouldn't need it. However if you do get stuck along the way the written instructions may come in handy.

Remember the more you draw cartoons the better they will become. And the better they become the more you will enjoy cartooning!

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #1

Start with a large oval for the top of your dragon's head. At about a quarter of the way up from the bottom of the first oval draw another slightly smaller and more squashed oval. This oval will be your dragon's snout or nose.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #2

Under the second oval draw a smaller half oval with another half oval inside it for your dragon's mouth.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #3

On the sides of the top of the head draw a couple rounded rectangles for your dragons horns. These are optional but I like horns on my dragons.
Touching the top of the nose draw two large circles that meet in the middle for your dragon's eyes. Under the eyes draw two small ovals set on about a fifteen-degree angle for his nostrils.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #4

Under your dragons head draw an oval on its side for your dragon's bottom. Make sure to leave enough room between his head and bottom to draw his body by connecting the head and bottom with lines that slightly bow inward.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #5

At each of the outer edges of your dragon's bottom draw an oval for the bottom of his feet. From the bottom side of your dragon draw a tail. Be creative with it add points, ridges or a simple tip like I did.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #6

Draw the arms just outside where the body meets your dragon's head. The left arm should be a reversed "D" with an upside down "W" at the end of it. The right will be a mirrored image of the left.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #7

The wings start just below the head. They are drawn to look like bat wings with just a few simple curved lines.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #8

The teeth are drawn on the bottom of your dragon's mouth under the nostrils. They are rounded triangles angling slightly outward. Add a couple curved lines starting at your dragon's head and ending at his feet for his underbelly.

How to Draw a Baby Dragon #9

Erase any stray lines and color your drawing.

How did your Baby Dragon turn out? Remember the most important part of drawing cartoons is to have fun!

This book makes a very nice into into the world of cartoons. More and more, cartoons are reverting back to the old style of retro cartooning that we used to see.
