How To Draw A Cartoon Cat

Ranked #3,361 in Arts & Design, #49,694 overall

Draw a cartoon cat with this easy to follow step-by-step tutorial.

In this lesson you will learn how to draw a simple cartoon cat. We will be using simple shapes so even the most novice artist will be able to achieve expert results.

You should be able to follow this tutorial pretty easily using only the pictures provided. Although written account is given of each step, hopefully you wouldn't need it. However if you do get stuck along the way the written instructions may come in handy.

Remember the more you draw cartoons the better they will become. And the better they become the more you will enjoy cartooning!

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #1

Start with a large circle for your cat's head. Near the bottom of that circle draw another circle sitting on top of a rectangle and connect your second circle and rectangle.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #2

The ears are two-rounded rectangles drawn near the top of your cat's head. The legs are each a circle about ¾ the size of the head they are centered at the bottom your rectangle.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #3

Add your cat's facial features. You can either draw a cat's features as I did or you can draw human features. The most important thing to remember when drawing your cat's eyes is it's pupils are slitted.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #4

Between the two circles at the bottom of you cat draw a horizontal line starting at the bottom and going about 2/3 of the way up your cat's body. Next erase the insides of the circles. Add a tail to your cat center it right between your cat's front and back legs.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #5

Your cat's front feet are the most difficult part to draw. Up against the bottom of the horizontal line you drew, draw a circle centered at the bottom, draw it slightly larger than half the thickness of your cat's leg. The next two circles should be drawn slightly higher than the first. Repeat for the other foot.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #6

Erase any unnecessary lines.

How To Draw A Cartoon Cat #7

Now comes the most fun part - coloring your cat! I choose to color mine orange with lime green eyes and a dark background to give it a spooky feeling. What colors have you decided for your cat?

Remember the most important part of drawing cartoons is to have fun!

I hope you had fun with this lesson, don't forget to check the bottom of this page for more of my featured cartoon drawing tutorials.

This book makes a very nice into into the world of cartoons. More and more, cartoons are reverting back to the old style of retro cartooning that we used to see.
