How To Draw A Cartoon Owl

Ranked #4,016 in Arts & Design, #61,121 overall

Draw a cartoon owl with this easy to follow step-by-step tutorial.

This tutorial will show you step-by-step how to draw a picture of a cartoon owl. We will be using simple shapes so even the most novice artist will be able to achieve expert results.

You should be able to follow this tutorial pretty easily using only the pictures provided. Although written account is given of each step, hopefully you wouldn't need it. However if you do get stuck along the way the written instructions should help.

Remember the more you draw cartoons the better they will become. And the better they become the more you will enjoy cartooning!

How To Draw A Cartoon Owl #1

Start with two small circles for your owl's eyes. The distance between the eyes should be about 1 1/2 the size of the eyes. Between the eyes draw two lines curving outwards. They should almost look like a letter "V" that doesn't quite meet in the middle.

How To Draw A Cartoon Owl #2

From the two lines you just drew curve them around the eyes leaving a stem at the top. There should be a little more room above the eyes than below.

How To Draw A Cartoon Owl #3

Connect the two shapes you just drew across the top with a curved line. Below them draw 3/4 of a large egg shape for your owls body.

How To Draw A Cartoon Owl #4

Below your owls body draw a couple straight lines for his perch. Slightly above the perch draw a semicircle for his tail feathers.
Draw a diamond centered between his eyes for his beak. The top of the beak should start at about the center of his eyes.

How To Draw A Cartoon Owl #5

Along both sides of your owl's body draw a curved line for his wings.
Below this body draw three ellipses for each of his feet. The ellipses should extend slightly below his perch.

How did your owl turn out? Remember the most important part of drawing cartoons is to have fun!
