How To Draw A Teddy Bear

Ranked #1,131 in Arts & Design, #14,317 overall

Learn how to draw a cartoon Teddy Bear with this easy to follow step-by-step tutorial.

This tutorial will show you how to draw a Love Bear or a Valentines Day Teddy Bear. The American teddy bear got its start with a cartoon. The cartoon was drawn by Clifford Berryman and titled "Drawing the Line in Mississippi," it showed President Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a baby bear.

In this lesson we will be using simple shapes so even the most novice artist will be able to achieve expert results. When following theses directions it is always better to begin your drawing with step one, then step two, and so on this will assure you that you get the desired effect from your completed drawing.

Remember the more you draw cartoons the better they will become. And the better they become the more you will enjoy cartooning!

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #1

Start with a large circle for your bear's head. Split your circle into quarters at a slight angle. The eyes are two small circles at the middle of his head and the muzzle is an oval at the bottom.

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #2

The ears are two semicircles drawn at the middle of the two top quarters of your bear's head. The nose is a smaller oval drawn just above the top of the muzzle and the mouth is a simple curved line below the nose.

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #3

Just below your bear's head draw a heart about three quarters the size of his head. At the widest part of the heart draw an oval on both sides for your bear's hands. Make sure his hands overlap the heart so it looks like he is holding it.

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #4

From the outside edge of the hands draw a curved line back up to the head for your bear's arms and shoulders. At the outside and bottom of the hands draw another slightly larger oval for your bear's feet.

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #5

Make the two ovals you just drew for your bear's feet into cylinders set at about a fifteen degree angle going back up towards his body. Connect his legs to his body with a bowed line.

How to Draw A Teddy Bear #6

Erase any unused line and add any additional details. I added hearts to the bottom of my bear's feet and lines on his front paws.

Will show this to my daughters, they draw a lot and I'm sure they will liked it. I am not very good with drawing, but maybe with your tutorials I could draw something. :-)
