Useful Tips on How to Learn to Draw Realistic Hands
- Practice by copying hands from pictures or other drawings that you can look at constantly while you draw
- Always start drawing a hand by sketching the rough shapes of the palm and the fingers (mostly simple geometric figures).
- Look at your own free hand while you draw by closing one eye so you can get the right angle.
- Compare each single finger to the others of the same hand to get the proportions right
- Make sure your proportions are in line with the rest of the body (in case your drawing includes a whole human body).
- Start with the easiest poses first (like the open hand)
